Day 1: Riyadh

Riyadh is our starting point, a microcosm of Saudi lifestyle. Explore Diriyah, the UNESCO‑listed birthplace of the Saudi state and a captivating fusion of rich heritage and ambitious modernity. Visit the National Museum to learn more about the country and its culture, then get your camera ready for sunset at the Edge of the World – a dramatic cliff overlooking endless desert and a photographer’s dream.

Day 2: Riyadh to Ha’il

This long but rewarding drive takes you north through dramatic desert landscapes. The roads are excellent, and the landscape is ever-changing, from green oases to rocky valleys. Lunch in Buraydah allows you to indulge in a region celebrated for its Najdi culinary traditions. Sample local dishes such as kabsa – a blend of tender lamb and delicately spiced rice.

You’ll arrive in Ha’il in the afternoon, a site famous for its rock art and spectacular mountain scenery. In the evening, visit A’arif Fort and browse the traditional market for hand-crafted souvenirs.

Day 3: Hai’l to AlUla

This part of the adventure takes you through rugged volcanic fields and desert plateaus, revealing the raw, natural beauty of the desert landscape. Arrive in AlUla, one of the Kingdom’s most impressive regions where you’ll find the ancient tombs of Dadan and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra.

Spend the afternoon and evening exploring AlUla Old Town, with its bustling souqs, thrilling entertainment and excellent restaurants. It’s a chance to relax and immerse yourself in local life.

Exploring AlUla

AlUla is the perfect rest day location, thanks to the sheer variety of things to see and do here. After a detour to the famous Elephant Rock, visit the enigmatic and ancient carvings of Jabal Ikmah – an enduring legacy of Saudi Arabia’s ancient heritage.

To enjoy this incredible landscape from a different perspective, take a sunrise hot‑air balloon experience or a scenic helicopter ride. Take the time to relax and unwind before the next stage of your adventure.

Day 5: AlUla to Medina

It’s time to bid the ancient treasures of AlUla farewell and drive on to the spiritual heartland of Saudi Arabia. We’re heading south toward the Holy City of Medina, home to the Quba Mosque. While entry to the holy sites is reserved for Muslims, visitors can still appreciate Medina’s spiritual atmosphere and explore cultural landmarks nearby.

Learn more about Medina’s importance at the city’s museum. If you love the romance of the age of steam, Hejaz Railway Station is a fascinating glimpse into the railway’s impact on the country as well as Ottoman influence in the region.

Day 6-7: Medina to Jeddah

A drive down the coast brings you to Jeddah, the Red Sea gateway and journey’s end. On land, you can explore Al‑Balad, the historic coral‑stone district, and watch the sunset on the Corniche before dining in style in one of the city’s fabulous restaurants. Your last day here is the ideal opportunity to go diving or snorkelling in the clear water of the Red Sea or relax on a beach before the journey home.

Jeddah is the perfect end to your Saudi Arabia adventure – but this is a journey you may find yourself returning to again!
