SOCIAL PROJECTS & COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Qatar Airways supports Educate A Child programme

Educate A Child is a global programme that aims to significantly reduce the number of children worldwide denied their fundamental right to education; an extension of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser of Qatar's mandate as a UNESCO Special Envoy on Basic and Higher Education, a United Nations Millennium Development Goal Advocate and a Steering Committee member of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Global Education First initiative.

Qatar Airways pledged its support to Educate A Child through signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the programme to bring quality primary education to millions of out of school children at a Plenary Session. The airline aims to provide support through its comprehensive suite of communication platforms beneficial in reaching a wide global passenger base to inform and showcase the initiative, including in-flight entertainment systems, in-flight magazines, web site and social media channels as well as financial donations collected on board and monetary contributions from the airline.

Supporting the Children’s Brain Tumour Foundation

The Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the treatment, quality of life, and long-term outlook for children with brain and spinal cord tumours. This is done through research, support, education, and advocacy to families and survivors. Qatar Airways supports the foundation by contributing to the annual benefit organized to raise funds for the foundation.

Investing in China’s youth development

In 2008, Qatar Airways donated to the China Youth Development Fund to help those affected by China's Sichuan province earthquake.

The initiative, Project Hope, enabled Qatar Airways to fund two schools in the affected region. The funding helped build temporary school housing for 1,000 students and a permanent facility for 500 students.

We are proud to have been a part of China's rebuilding effort, particularly as it relates to the children representing China's future.

Special flight puts smiles on children's faces

Children were given a special treat when they took to the skies for an exclusive flight over Qatar.

The joint initiative between Qatar Airways and the Qatar Orphan Foundation, Dhreima, was aimed at bringing fun and joy into the lives of children.

One hundred children, ranging in age from 5-16 years, were invited on the 20-minute flight. The air was full of anticipation and excitement as the children boarded from Doha International Airport—most had never been on an aircraft before.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker and Dhreima's General Director Khaled Kamal welcomed the children onboard and joined the special flight.
