The first joint bio fuel study
In January 2010, Qatar Airways and several Qatar-based and international industry partners established the Qatar Advanced Biofuel Platform. This initiative seeks to develop advanced biofuel technology, an engineering and implementation plan for biofuel production, a biofuel investment strategy, and ongoing market and strategic analyses.

First commercial flight powered by GTL fuel
In October 2009, Qatar Airways completed the world's first commercial passenger flight powered by gas-to-liquids (GTL) aviation jet fuel. The flight from London Gatwick to Doha was taken in an Airbus A340-600.
