    • There are instances that your passenger will require to reserve extra seats for baggage in the aircraft cabin.

    The following CBBG (Cabin Baggage) guidelines are applicable exclusively to flights operated by Qatar Airways.

    What is Cabin Baggage ?

    Carry-on bags, sometimes known as hand luggage or cabin baggage, are items of luggage that are taken into the aircraft cabin. This part of the baggage is not checked in before a customer’s flight and is normally stored in the overhead storage compartment above a passenger’s seat.

    The maximum allowance for this purpose is :

    • For First & Business Class – 2 pieces of baggage weighing no more than 15 kgs and of a dimension not exceeding 50x37x25cms
    • For Economy class – 1 piece of baggage weighing no more than 7kgs and of a dimension not exceeding 50 x 37 x 25 cms.
    • Please note: Local regulations shall apply whenever the allowance is less than the above.

    Flights departing from the United States of America for First or Business Class: To be in accordance with TSA travel regulations, passengers can only carry 1 piece of hand baggage and 1 personal item, such as a handbag, briefcase or laptop bag.

    Laptops and its bags must fit within the cabin baggage allowance.

    Baggage may be carried on additional seat/s in the passenger cabin (CBBG), provided it belongs to one of the following categories:

    • Delicate items that could be damaged or broken if carried in the aircraft/baggage hold. This includes musical instruments, paintings, electronic equipment etc.
    • Valuables such as money, gold, jewellery, diplomatic courier in accordance with the local custom regulations
    • Only baggage accompanied by a passenger may be accepted
    • Cargo (unaccompanied) shall not be allowed in the passenger cabin
    • Dangerous goods must never be accepted as cabin load
    • There is no baggage allowance for tickets issued specifically for cabin baggage

    Limitations

    • Maximum weight of any such item is 75 Kg per seat occupied by the item.
    • Maximum length of any such item is 120 cm (48 inches). Items longer than 120cms must be placed across more than one seat
    • A maximum of 3 extra seats can be booked per passenger in addition to the passenger’s own seat depending upon aircraft seat configuration

    Charges and Ticketing

    • Charges are based on the number of extra seats required to accommodate the baggage and are collected on separate e-tickets for each seat reserved. (if more than one CBBG is required(max up to three),PNR is booked with two seats and two Eticket will be issued ,PAX+CBBG –charge for additional CBBG will be collected in the form of Q surcharge.
    • Extra seats are charged at any available published fare for which inventory is available.
    • Changes & refunds are subject to the same rules and conditions of the fare purchased.
    • Taxes are charged only on the Passenger’s ticket. No taxes or fuel (YQ) surcharges apply on the CBBG ticket.
    • In normal e-ticket for passenger, Endorsement to reflect that this is a CBBG case, while e-ticket for CBBG should reflect passengers name and main ticket number.
    • NIL baggage allowance is permitted for CBBG e-ticket.
    • Ticket designator (CB) to be reflected next to the Fare Basis code in CBBG e-ticket.
    • Issue a Ticket covering the carriage of the passenger in the normal manner.
    • Issue a second ticket for accompanying baggage according to standard ticketing procedure.
    • If a customer is requesting for more than one CBBG (max up to three)-PNR needs to be booked with two seats and Issue an Eticket covering the carriage of the passenger in the normal manner. Issue a second ticket for accompanying baggage according to ticketing procedure and add the charge for additional CBBG in the form of Q surcharge. Once ticketed, please inform QR HELPDESK to block the seats together.
    • In case if a passenger who is holding more than one CBBG decided to cancel the booking, PNR needs to be cancelled first and the information should be passed to QR HELPDESK to cancel the blocked seat.
    • Please ensure that SSR CBBG is auto-confirmed, however station/call centre needs to verify that CBBG dimensions, weight and permitted item are in compliance with GSM. If this compliance is not adhered, CBBG will be refused for transportation even if SSR CBBG shows confirmed (HK).
      In case of Travel Agent PNR, station/call centre will have to brief Travel Agent and assists with verification in GSM (dimensions, weight, and permitted item).

    Note:

    1. Please ensure that type of item, dimensions and weight are mentioned in SSR CBBG

    2. Cabin upgrades at the airport in the form of payment such as CASH / CREDIT CARD / QMILES etc., MUST NOT be offered to passengers with Cabin Baggage (CBBG)

    3. CBBG can be booked both economy and premium cabins on all QR operated flights only. However, this cannot be offered on premium cabin CX operated flights.

    Interline routings

    Pre-Paid Sports equipment rates are not supported with Interline routing

    Balls intended for sports e.g. football, basketball, soccer, volleyball etc. can be accepted in carry-on baggage and/or checked baggage provided they are partially deflated (containing no more than 70 % of the balls air capacity).

    Hence, prior to acceptance, trade partners must inform customers travelling with such balls intended for sport to partially deflate them to avoid any incidence that may occur due to the change in pressure on board the aircraft.

    Sport Equipment

    Qatar Airways accepts any sporting equipment as checked baggage as part of the free checked baggage allowance mentioned on your ticket.

    SSR for carriage of human remains (Ashes) in the cabin:

    Certain airport authorities may require advance notification whenever a passenger carries human ashes within the aircraft cabin. Please check with the concerned station’s Airport personnel.

    A non-chargeable auto-confirmed SSR code HRIC dedicated for carriage of human remains (ashes) carried by a passenger in the cabin on QR operating flights has been established. The entry to be used is as follows:

    This SSR is only available for QR and Travel Agents hosted on GDS Amadeus.All other Non-Amadeus users will be required to contact QR for assistance. SSR HRIC does not replace any regulatory requirements from various countries to present the necessary documentation to the relevant authorities if / when required.

    1. Urns containing cremated human remains will not be accepted as a standalone piece of checked baggage.

    2. Urns containing cremated human remains shall be accepted as a checked baggage if they are within a piece of baggage (e.g. suitcase).

    3. When an Urn is carried in the cabin, the weight of the urn is not to be included into the total allowable cabin baggage allowance

    For routes where the weight concept apply, there is no limit on the number of pieces that can be checked in as long as the weight allowance for the total number of pieces is not exceeded. However, limitations may apply based on aircraft carrying capacity.

    Airlines have changed their baggage allowance and charges in accordance with IATA Resolution 302 which is effective  01 April 2015 the most significant carrier(MSC)  is the Marketing carrier.

    This new system has removed industry standard baggage allowance and charges and introduced new rule of the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) which applies for interline journey. Each carrier can now publish its own rules.

    Most Significant Operating Carrier

    For journeys not covered by the US itineraries, the Most Significant Carrier (MSC) is the Operating Carrier as follows:

    •  For a travel between two or more Tariff Conference areas:
       The carrier performing carriage on the first sector that crosses   from one area to another
    •  For a travel between all three Tariff Conferences:
       The carrier providing carriage on the first sector that crosses   between TC1 and TC2
    •  For a travel within a Tariff Conference area:
       First carrier that crosses from one sub-area to another
    •  For travel within a Tariff Conference sub-area:
       The carrier performing carriage on the first international sector
    •  For travel within a single country:
       The first Operating Carrier on the checked portion

    Baggage Rule to Apply

    • If different, apply provisions of “Most Significant Carrier” (MSC).
    • In case of code-share flights this will be the Operating Carrier, unless that carrier publishes a rule stipulating that it will be the Marketing Carrier.
    • If MSC does not publish its provision, apply the rule of the Check-in carrier
    • If the Check-in carrier does not publish its provision, apply Operating carrier's provisions sector-by-sector

    US Itineraries (US Exceptions)

    • If passenger is booked on domestic single interline e-ticket, the baggage allowances and fees of first carrier apply throughout the itinerary
    • If passenger is booked on domestic single interline e-ticket with marketing code-share flight number shown on first sector, the baggage allowances and fees of such carrier apply throughout the itinerary
    • If there is a stopover on a domestic itinerary with multiple carriers, the baggage allowances and fees that apply at the beginning of passenger's itinerary apply to the entire itinerary, regardless of whether there are any stopovers in the itinerary
    • In the case of a passenger US domestic & international itinerary composed of more than one ticket, the individual baggage allowances and fees will apply
    • Baggage rules for international single e-ticket interline and code-share itineraries apply as follows:
    • 1.  If the first segment of an e-ticket is not a code-share flight, then the airline operating that segment determines the baggage fees and allowances that apply throughout that passenger's journey.
    • 2. If the first segment of an e-ticket is a code-share flight, then the marketing carrier for that segment determines the baggage allowances and fees that would apply on all the remaining flights on that e-ticket.
    • The carrier for the first flight on the e-ticket is free to decide if rule of Most Significant Carrier apply or if the baggage allowances and fees of first carrier will apply.

    Non-acceptance of MSC Rule by Carriers

    There may be non-US carriers, like some Low Cost Carriers (LCCs) which do not apply MSC rule.
