Excess baggage purchase rules on qatarairways.com
- Excess baggage is only offered over and above the free baggage allowance already indicated on your booking confirmation and tickets;
- Excess baggage is charged per kg, except to/from the Americas, where it is charged per piece;
- Purchase units are offered in increments of single pieces or bundles of 5kg (11lb) each;
- Each passenger is allowed a maximum of five pieces or 100 kg at a time
- A single piece of checked-in baggage must not weigh more than 32kg (70lb) or exceed 158cm (62in) in length + width + height. Any bags weighing more than 32kg (70lb) must be broken down so each piece weighs less than 32kg (70lb);
- Excess baggage purchases apply to Qatar Airways flights and for tickets issued by Qatar Airways only.
- Excess baggage is calculated per passenger per journey, where a journey is defined as the entire outbound or inbound trip between origin and destination, not including the transfer point;
- Purchases may be made from the time a booking is ticketed, up to three hours prior to departure. They are valid only for the flight and date shown on the excess baggage purchase receipt. To determine whether or not a booking is ticketed, check the confirmation email for a ticket number next to each passenger’s name;
- Excess baggage charges are quoted and billed in the currency of the departure country;
- Excess baggage purchased online at qatarairways.com is non-refundable and non-transferable. Date changes to the booking are permitted within the same route only. Excess baggage is not valid for travel on other carriers;
- Excess baggage is subject to space limitations at check-in. If excess baggage cannot be accepted because of space limitations or airline initiated flight or schedule changes, it may be refunded or transferred to another flight with the same origin and destination, in accordance with the airline's policies;
- Online excess baggage purchase is not allowed for infants;
- Excess baggage purchased on qatarairways.com is only valid for Qatar Airways direct flights . If you need to book excess baggage for an itinerary that includes interline or code-share flights, please contact those carriers for their excess baggage policies;
- In case online purchase of excess baggage is not completed for any reason, Qatar Airways reserves the right to not offer the online discounted price.
Excess baggage awards
Excess baggage awards allow you to redeem your Qmiles or Qcredits* to pay for excess baggage for yourself, family or friends on Qatar Airways flights.

- Minimum/maximum purchase requirements to Lagos and Tanzania (Bulk from 180 to 300 kg):
- Minimum purchase is 30 kgs over the normal baggage allowance.

- Minimum purchased baggage is 5 kgs over the baggage allowance stated on the ticket.
- Maximum purchased baggage is 160 kgs.
- Additional baggage to be purchased should be in blocks of 5 kgs. Example: 10 kgs, 15 kgs.
- Unutilised bulk baggage purchases can be refunded or re-issued.

Qatar Airways accepts any sporting equipment as checked baggage as part of the passenger's free checked baggage allowance mentioned on the ticket.
Any sporting equipment which exceeds the free allowance will be subject to excess baggage rates.

Terms and conditions
- Rates are applied according to the origin and destination, irrespective of the point of sale;
- Excess baggage rates for sporting equipment mentioned above apply only when purchased offline prior to departure. Regular excess baggage rates (mentioned in the first tab) apply for sporting equipment allowance purchased at the airport;
- Changes are permitted free of charge.
- Cancellations are permitted free of charge. The value of the purchase can be used toward further transportation or as a refund.
- The size of small or medium pieces should not exceed a dimension of 217 cm (length + width + height).
- The size of large pieces should not exceed a dimension of 300 cm (length + width + height).
Surfboard Carriage
Surfboards are accepted as checked baggage as part of the passenger's free checked baggage allowance mentioned in the ticket.
Surfboards which exceed the free baggage allowance (weight and piece concept) with maximum dimensions (Length + Width + Height) of 300 cm (on weight concept flights) and 158 cm (on piece concept flights) will be charged in accordance with the excess baggage rates for sports equipment.
Exceptions to the above rule apply for customers travelling to/from Sao Paulo to/from Bali, Singapore, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur with surfboards exceeding 158cms (L+W+H).

The transportation of animals is subject to regulations in origin and destination countries and to the regulations of any countries through which the pet will transit or transfer.
The cost of transportation depends on the weight and size of the animal along with its carrier or crate.

- Qatar Airways will continue to comply with the local regulations or airport limitations with respect to acceptance of a maximum weight or size of the container. Please allow sufficient time for us to check the applicable rules to your flight's origin and departure cities. In case of country restrictions on weight or carrier size, the animal will be booked and transported through Qatar Airways Cargo.
- Total dimensions of the pet container/cage should not exceed 118 inches (300cm), unless indicated otherwise by the local regulations of your flight's origin and departure cities and airports.
- Qatar Airways will continue to comply with the local regulations or airport limitations with respect to acceptance of a maximum weight or size of the container. In such situations, the animal will be booked and transported through Qatar Airways Cargo.
- Transport of animal as excess baggage is charged as per the categories above regardless if free baggage allowance is utilized or not.
- Contact your nearest Qatar Airways office as confirmation is required for transport of animal as excess baggage.
- Excess baggage rates for animal also applies if a falcon is transported as checked excess baggage.
- Changes are permitted free of charge.
- Cancellation is allowed free of charge, the residual value can be issued for further transportation or refund.
- Rates are subject to change without prior notice.
