Flawless attention to detail characterises flights from Sydney to Munich with Qatar Airways. Dine on a menu of fine cuisine, and relax spacious seating that’s been specially designed for maximum comfort. With an attentive cabin crew looking after your needs all the way, your journey will be one to remember.

Munich was founded in 1158 and is the major metropolis of southern Germany. The city’s long history endows Bavaria’s capital with a wealth of cultural and historic attractions, sitting alongside thoroughly modern facilities and conveniences. Glitzy shopping malls and gourmet restaurants are plentiful, and so too are world-class galleries and museums, historic monuments like the Residenz.

Arriving in Munich

Munich is not usually known as a tourist destination, but with so much to offer adventurous travellers it certainly should be. Fly to Munich with Qatar Airways and discover a traditional Bavarian city that has culture, great food, attractions and a warm welcome to offer visitors.

Munich’s classically Gothic architecture is juxtaposed with an ultra-modern commercial sector. But these two completely different styles actually work well together, creating a city that’s eclectic and individualistic. Fly to Munich with Qatar Airways and discover its unique personality for yourself.

Tourist attractions

Bavaria’s greatest asset has to be its stunning countryside, and the towering Alps create a magnificent backdrop to this stunning city. The main attraction in the city has to be the Residenzmuseum, home to Bavaria's Wittelsbach rulers from 1508 until 1914.

Tours start in the Grottenhof or Grotto Court with its spectacular Perseus Fountain, and take you through a guided tour of 90 rooms filled with some of Germany’s treasures.

Munich was home to Germany’s great architecture for centuries, and as such has become a city of palaces. The most popular is Schloss Nymphenburg, a wonderful Baroque palace set in acres of fabulously manicured gardens.

Once the home of the Bavarian kings, it is now open to the public and houses several museums including the Marstallmuseum, the Museum Mensch und Natur, the Erwin von Kreibig-Museum, and the Porzellanmuseum München.

Travel considerations

Flights to Munich with Qatar Airways land at Munich Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure.

Before you fly to Munich please check the visa and passport requirements.

Flying from Sydney

Australia’s best-known city is not actually its capital, but the harbour-side metropolis of Sydney. This location is full of iconic buildings and landmarks, and is served by one of the largest airports in the country, Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport.

Just 8km from the city centre, it is also the oldest international airport in the world, and passengers flying from Sydney with Qatar Airways will find it to be a friendly, relaxed yet extremely efficient departure point. Staff are polite and helpful, and the facilities at this extensive airport are excellent.

Transportation and parking

Its close proximity to the centre of Sydney means that there is plenty of transport available to and from the heart of the city to the airport itself.

The Airport Link rail service connects the three terminals to Sydney Central Station and takes just under half an hour. Terminal 1 has its own railway station, while Terminals 2 and 3 share a station.

Sydney buses run to and from the terminals and take around 40-45 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions. Taxis are plentiful, and the journey time from the centre to the airport is around 30 minutes. Parking at the airport is plentiful, and there are four car parks to choose from.

The International Car Park is located opposite Terminal 1 and provides short and long-term stays. Other car parks are designed for domestic and short-term visitors. Valet parking is available.

Arriving in Sydney

Passengers flying from Sydney with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 1. The terminal is particularly large, so ensure that you check the departure boards on arrival for your gate number.

Recently, security at Sydney Airport has been tightened, so allow extra time to check in and to clear customs and security checks.

Facilities and amenities

Communications facilities are excellent, with free Wi-Fi available throughout Terminals 1 and 2. Internet kiosks are also located both pre and post-security, and mobile telephone hire is available from several vendors in the arrivals area of Terminal 1.

There are more than 150 shops and retail outlets at the airport, with a huge selection of luxury and designer goods, tourist souvenirs and Duty Free.

The food court offers a broad choice of both on-the-go fast food and more formal dining options, with plenty of beverages and snack vendors to sample too.
