Doha, QATAR – Magazine publisher Huw Harries from Hong Kong has earned two Business Class tickets anywhere on the Qatar Airways network after winning top prize in a competition run by the airline’s cargo division.
Mr Harries, 37, was the lucky entrant to estimate the right number of jelly beans stored in a scale model of a cargo container that was on display on Qatar Airways Cargo’s exhibition stand at a recent trade fair in Germany.
His estimate of 7,950 jelly beans was just four above the correct number.
Qatar Airways Cargo recently took part in one of the world’s leading air cargo exhibitions, Transport Logistic 2005, in Munich. The four-day event provided Qatar Airways Cargo with an opportunity to promote its new Munich – Doha freighter service, as well as relaunch its Platinum guaranteed booking product.
Mr Harries described his prize as “fantastic”, and said he looked forward to experiencing Qatar Airways’ award-winning Five Star service for the first time.
“I am extremely honoured to win this fabulous prize and am excited at the prospect of flying Qatar Airways, of which I have heard fantastic reports,” added Mr Harries, publisher of CargoNews Asia in Hong Kong.
Mr Alex Roth, from Stuttgart, won second prize of two nights’ accommodation at the Kempinski Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel in Munich.
Based in Doha, capital of the State of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf, Qatar Airways operates a fleet of 40 modern all-Airbus aircraft to 65 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Indian subcontinent and the Far East.
The fleet includes a dedicated freighter, an A300-600FR which operates three routes from Doha – non-stop to Munich, Amsterdam and Chennai.
Munich was added as a freighter destination in March, operating three-flights-a-week from Doha. The cargo route was launched following a new bilateral agreement between the governments of Germany and Qatar, in which Qatar Airways was allowed to operate new freighter flights and additional passenger services to Germany.
Qatar Airways Cargo’s Platinum product offers clients a premium freight forwarding option which means freight takes priority on the ground and in the air. It offers late acceptance of goods, guaranteed space on the booked flight, or a full 100% money-back guarantee if shipment fails to fly as booked.
Last year Qatar Airways Cargo was accredited with the ISO 9001:2000 international certification, awarded for customer service and efficiency in airfreight space sales, management, reservations and freight handling.
