The temple is stunning and expansive, with a 500-pillared corridor and a labyrinth of rooms, courtyards and gardens. It is famous for its sculptures and large collection of temple mural paintings. In the grounds is a beautifully tranquil pond called Padmatheertham, and the garden is lined with palm trees.

The Napier Museum is the museum of choice to find out more about the history and culture of the region, while directly opposite is the Keralan Museum – an interactive experience that presents a history of Kerala through the ages.
