Kenya’s capital and largest city is also its fastest growing tourist destination. Nairobi is a vibrant, multicultural metropolis, with a rich café culture and a lively nightlife. There are so many places to visit in Nairobi from its heritage and traditional markets, to spectacular waterfalls and stunning national parks.

If you want to embark on a unique wildlife experience, then Nairobi is the place for you. Here you’ll find some of the world’s most vulnerable species, including elephants, black rhinoceroses, giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, lions and buffaloes, not far from the city centre. Be sure to take a safari tour during your visit to see these creatures in their natural habitat.

Book a flight ticket to Nairobi with Qatar Airways and discover this jewel in Africa’s crown.

Flying from Philadelphia

A major air hub for the industrial heart of the United States, Philadelphia International Airport is one of the busiest in North America for both passengers and freight.

The airport has been the recipient of a slew of awards, including recognition for its contribution to the environment and the arts.

Passengers flying from Philadelphia with Qatar Airways will find that this busy airport is efficiently run by incredibly friendly and helpful staff, who are focused on providing the very best customer experience possible.

Parking and transportation

The airport is vast (in fact it has sections in both Philadelphia city and Tinicum Township), but fortunately ground transportation is very good. The Metro service operates between the city centre and the airport, with several stops along the way. Taxis are plentiful, and hotels in the city are happy to arrange limousine services for passengers.

Buses run frequently from 69th Street Transportation Centre to the airport and from the UPS hub, and the airport is also connected by road to the city by the I-95. There are more than 19,000 parking spaces in several garages and parking lots positioned directly opposite the terminals.

Arriving at Philadelphia International Airport

Passengers flying from Philadelphia with Qatar Airways will depart from Terminal A-West. This is one of the airport’s newest terminal buildings.

There are 13 gates at the terminal (A14 to A26), as well as lounge areas for first and business class passengers, and a selection of facilities and amenities for all passengers.

Facilities and amenities

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport, and is currently being upgraded in Terminal 1-West. Philadelphia Marketplace at the Airport on the B/C Connector has over 30 retail outlets and a large food court.

There are also spa and wellness facilities, private suites and banking services. In the terminal itself there are a number of restaurants serving an international menu as well as lighter snacks and drinks.

Arriving in Nairobi

vibrant and colourful city is big, bold and brash, providing visitors with a typically boisterous and incredibly warm African welcome.

Book a flight to Nairobi with Qatar Airways and you’ll discover a country and people full of energy. Modern sits along traditional, and the skyscrapers of the commercial sector stand next to open markets where traditional goods are still on sale every day. This melting pot of cultures is one of those once-in-a-lifetime destinations that should be on everyone’s bucket list.

Tourist attractions

Most people who travel to Nairobi intend to go on into the African bush to go on Safari. But if you pause for a while there is plenty in Nairobi itself to discover too. Head up to the top of the Kenyatta International Conference Center’s viewing tower and you can have a panoramic view of the city below you.

Nairobi also has some good museums, including the Nairobi National Museum, where visitors can learn more about the history and culture of Kenya, the National Railway Museum, which charts the importance of the railroad in the development of the country, and the Nairobi Gallery, home to a constantly changing collection of modern African art by up and coming artists.

You cannot escape the importance of Kenya’s wildlife, and around Nairobi there are plenty of sanctuaries where you can see some of the country’s most endangered inhabitants. The charming Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage provides a home to orphaned elephants and rhinos from all over Africa, While the Giraffe Centre in Lang'ata is of international importance as a breeding centre for the endangered Rothschild giraffe.

And while most visitors head to Nairobi National Park, a quieter and less crowded alternative is the delightful Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, a refuge for Colobus monkeys, leopards and countless species of birds.

Travel Considerations

Flights to Nairobi with Qatar Airways land at JKIA Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, southeast of the city centre.

Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Nairobi please check the visa and passport requirements.
