DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways celebrated the arrival of its inaugural flight to Adelaide on 3 May with a gala dinner event attended by the crème de la crème of South Australian society. The glamorous evening was hosted by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker. His Excellency, the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO, Governor of South Australia, and The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Martin Haese graced the event with their presence. The airline also welcomed Minister of Tourism South Australia, the Hon. Leon Bignell; Adelaide Airport Managing Director, Mr. Mark Young; and Chief Executive Officer of South Australia Tourism Commission, Mr. Rodney Harrex to the celebration.
The stylish crowd enjoyed a dazzling line-up of entertainment starting with an opening sequence choreographed by the renowned Australian dancer Marko Panzic, star of So You Think You Can Dance.
The evening continued with a performance from X-Factor duo Matt Price and Jess Dunbar, which was followed by a double act from Australian singing stars Bonnie Anderson and Kate Ceberano, performing together for the very first time at the Qatar Airways celebration event. Master of Ceremonies and one of South Australia’s most recognised TV and radio presenters, Belinda Heggen, added a further touch of glamour to the night’s proceedings.
H.E. Mr. Al Baker said: “I am very happy to be here tonight celebrating the launch of our flights to Adelaide, our fourth gateway into Australia. We have a special relationship with the people of Australia and I am pleased to be able to offer them an additional service connecting them to the Middle East, Europe and beyond.”
He added: “It is also my special pleasure to be the first airline to bring the A350 to Australian travellers who will benefit from this new-generation aircraft’s modern technology and ultimate passenger comfort.”
Passengers travelling to or from Adelaide on board the Qatar Airways Airbus A350 in one of its 36 Business Class seats will enjoy one of the most comfortable fully-flat beds in the sky with 80 inches of seat pitch. The 1-2-1 configuration gives every passenger direct access to an aisle and the on-demand à la carte menu service allows Business Class passengers to order anything from the menu at any time during the flight. The aircraft also features the state-of the-art Oryx One entertainment system, with more than 3,000 entertainment options on individual screens in all classes.
