SIMONA HALEP WINS QATAR AIRWAYS SPONSORED QATAR TOTAL OPEN 2014

Doha, QATAR – Seventh seed Simona Halep of Romania has celebrated her first title of the year by clinching the Qatar Airways sponsored Qatar Total Open 2014 in straight sets against Angelique Kerber.

Halep won the final 6-2, 6-3 to take home the Doha title in front of a packed crowd at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex last night. The victory comes after Halep had previously defeated two other top-10 players at the same event; No.7 Sara Errani in the quarterfinals and No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals, before taking on ninth-ranked Kerber in the final.

Qatar Airways, the Official Airline of the six-day event, has been a strong supporter of the tournament over the years since it was launched in 2001 as the first professional women’s tennis tournament to be staged in the Middle East.
