Highlights

As Pierre mentions in their article, Qatar is “one of the most accessible countries in the world […] It’s very easy to get around, go to restaurants, and enjoy cultural or more sporty activities in the desert!” With a wide range of activities available to everyone, what can you do during a layover?

Day 1

Quiet in the morning, the Katara district enchants with its narrow alleys, pigeon towers, amphitheater, and two mosques whose turquoise and gold mosaics echo the nearby seafront. In the early afternoon, the scent of spices and incense beckons visitors to explore Souq Waqif.

As Doha blends tradition and modernity, the pedestrian Corniche offers a breathtaking view of a futuristic skyline. Finally, the National Museum of Qatar, with its striking architecture, traces the country’s history. To end the day in style, the couple dined at the Alain Ducasse restaurant, nestled on the museum’s top floor.

“The main walkways are paved with gentle slopes, and whether or not you have a front wheel, you’ll have no trouble getting around. Ramps are available at the entrances of cultural buildings, and accessible restrooms are provided in several areas. If needed, there are even free adapted golf carts with ramps.” - Pierre

Day 2

As breathtaking on the outside as it is within, the Museum of Islamic Art holds treasures from around the world. From art to contemplation, the journey continues through Education City, home to a mosque and a national library — both featuring bold, modern architecture.

In the mid-afternoon, the couple set off to explore the charming Mina district, where pastel façades evoke the feel of Mediterranean fishing ports. Its fish market offers a unique blend of luxury and artistic flair.

In Mina, “everything is so perfect that it feels like a movie set! For street art lovers, it’s the ideal spot. They brought in many artists to decorate the façades. Head down to the port to watch the sunset behind the skyline!” - Myriam

Day 3

Al Wakrah, a neighboring town with ochre-colored alleyways and a traditional atmosphere, offers a charming souq along the seafront. Although less luxurious and modern than the capital, Al Wakrah is remarkably accessible.

In the afternoon, the couple traded the calm of this small town for a desert adventure! After a 4x4 ride through the dunes, they arrived at Khor Al Adaid, a tranquil inland sea recognized by UNESCO. With its striking contrast between blue waters and golden sands, and breathtaking sunsets, it’s truly an experience to remember.

“For a timeless moment, visit Souq Al Wakrah on Friday morning during prayer. The shops are closed, and you're free to wander through the alleyways at your own pace.” – Pierre

Detailed itinerary

Katara, Souq Waqif, Corniche et and Qatar National Museum

While traveling the world, this couple often passed through Doha without ever leaving the airport. This time, they tried our stopover program, which allows travelers to explore Doha starting from just $14 per night. Myriam and Pierre stayed in a high-end hotel near The Pearl district.

The Grand Hyatt Doha, available from €150 per night, is fully wheelchair accessible. The room includes a bathroom with a walk-in shower, a wall-mounted seat, and support bars around the toilet. The bed is approximately 60 cm high. The terrace is easily accessible.
