Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways today announced an initial reduction in the fuel surcharge on flights from Doha by up to 15 per cent offering passengers great savings.
Effective tomorrow (December 31), passengers purchasing one-way or return tickets on flights from Doha will be able take advantage of the lower supplements.
Downward oil prices in recent weeks, following an unprecedented surge during the year, has prompted Qatar Airways to take the first steps in reducing the fuel surcharge in order to offer passengers significant savings.
Qatar Airways fully intends to reduce fuel surcharges further in the future.
While some airlines attempted to disguise their exaggerated fuel surcharges from the outset by including them in the fare, Qatar Airways implemented a clear policy whereby the fuel surcharge was added as a separate charge making it highly transparent to passengers.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “The global economy has been witnessing unprecedented fluctuations in oil prices in recent months.
“Qatar Airways has absorbed a large percentage of the increase in fuel prices, passing very little onto the consumer. We are pleased to inform the travelling public that due to a significant drop in oil prices, we are able to reduce the fuel surcharge they have been paying by as much as 15 per cent.”
Added Al Baker: “We are still absorbing the bulk of the fuel surcharge so hope the reduction provides passengers with a perfect festive gift which demonstrates our commitment to give the travelling public high levels of service at the most competitive prices.”
