Located just over 10 miles north of the city centre, it is one of several up and coming European airports with growing passenger numbers. The staff are friendly and customer-focused, ensuring that passengers flying from Bucharest with Qatar Airways get the best possible start to their journey. Good quality facilities and a fast, efficient check in system makes Bucharest a pleasure to fly from at any time of the year.

Melbourne, Australia’s second largest city and the capital of the state of Victoria, is widely regarded as the nation’s cultural hub. Book a flight to Melbourne with Qatar Airways, and discover a vibrant and colourful side to Australia.

Art is palpable in this city, which not only hosts world-class museums and galleries, but also has a vibrant street-art scene.

As a cosmopolitan hot spot, it offers a vibrant café culture and an abundance of gastronomic delights. Michelin-starred restaurants stand ready to wow your taste buds with their eclectic menus. Melbourne’s buildings have also been designed to impress. Here you will find Victorian-era landmarks and cutting-edge modern architecture.

      Flying from Bucharest

The larger of two airports serving Romania’s capital, Henri Coandă International Airport is a busy international air transport hub that is growing in importance in Europe.

It is currently undergoing a massive, multi-million dollar improvement programme that will expand its capacity for both arrivals and departures, including flights from Bucharest with Qatar Airways.

The airport is approximately 16.5km from the city centre, and the staff will ensure that your departure is smooth, hassle-free and easy.

      Transportation and parking

The airport is particularly well served by public transport, with a train station less than a kilometre from the main terminal.

Buses ferry passengers to and from the station, as well as from the city centre’s bus station – journey times from the heart of Bucharest are approximately 30-60 minutes, depending on the time of day (rush hour can be particularly busy).

Taxis are plentiful and take around 20-40 minutes, again depending on traffic conditions, and some major hotels also run airport shuttle services.

Short-term parking is located close to the terminals, with long-stay facilities a little further away and connected to the main airport by shuttle services.

      Arriving in Otopeni, Bucharest

Passengers flying from Bucharest with Qatar Airways depart from the Departures Hall within the main terminal building.

As the terminal is particularly large, ensure that you allow plenty of time before your plane departs to check in and clear security checks and customs.

      Facilities and amenities

The terminal is split into two with a shop-lined walkway connecting the two. In the departures section there are plenty of dining options, including snacks and takeaway drinks and light bites, through to more substantial restaurant-style meals.

Shops offer a selection of goods and accessories, including some very good quality leather items. Wi-Fi is free and public telephones are plentiful (note that they use pre-paid cards rather than cash – cards are available to buy throughout the airport).

Other facilities include a hairdresser, a public viewing gallery and a pharmacy, as well as several lounge areas for passengers.

      Arriving in Melbourne

The cultural capital of Australia welcomes visitors from all around the world. Fly to Melbourne with Qatar Airways and find out what a pleasure long-haul travel can be with our award-winning service.

Melbourne’s reputation as a cultural centre is well-earned. Festivals, events and shows bring everything from live theatre to music and art to this thriving city, while a host of attractions keep visitors entertained all year-round.

      Tourist attractions

Flinders Street Railway Station is probably the most recognisable landmark in Melbourne and is a typical example of colonial-era architecture. The main entrance has a cluster of clocks hanging over it, and is a meeting point for locals.

Eureka Tower is the tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere. Climb to the top (if you have a head for heights) to get some spectacular panoramic views of Melbourne.

For all the hustle and bustle of everyday Melbourne life, head to the Queen Victoria Market. Huge and colourful, you can get just about anything you want here, including unusual souvenirs and antiques.

Flowing through the heart of the city is the Yarra – known as the "river that flows upside down" because of its brown colour, it’s actually a lot more scenic than it sounds, with some beautiful walks and picnic spots along its banks.

      Travel considerations

Flights to Melbourne with Qatar Airways land at Melbourne Airport, also referred to as Tullamarine Airport. Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure.
