Flying from Riyadh
Dominated, not by its terminals but by the magnificent mosque that lies at the very heart of the complex, Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport is a rapidly expanding air transport hub that is becoming increasingly important to the region.
Qatar Airways flights from Riyadh connect this busy business hub to Doha with regular daily flights. The airport itself is modern with interesting architectural focal points that draw on traditional Islamic design.
Parking and transportation
The airport’s parking facilities are excellent, and situated very close to the main terminals. Two very large multi-storey garages are located directly in front of the passenger terminals, on either side of the mosque. With a capacity to hold up to 11,600 vehicles, there is plenty of space in both long and short-term parking areas.
The car parks are connected to the terminals and the mosque by pedestrian walkways under the arrivals level roadway. While there is no public transport to the airport, there are shuttle services from some of the more popular hotels, and a fleet of taxis transport passengers to, and from, the airport. Please note that women are not allowed to drive on public roads in Saudi Arabia.
Arriving in Riyadh
Qatar Airways flights from Riyadh depart from Terminal 1. Moving walkways connect the main terminals (including Terminal 1) and are located in the three link buildings between the terminals.
Airbridges connect passengers to their flights from the departures area, removing the need for bus journeys out to the aircraft.
Facilities and amenities
The focus of the airport is the main mosque, a beautiful building that can house up to 5,000 worshippers inside and a further 5,000 in the plaza outside. Within Terminal 1, there are a range of retail outlets selling luxury goods, travel essentials, books and magazines.
Other facilities include a bank, ATM machines, and a range of cafés and restaurants serving quality international cuisine, snacks and beverages.
