Qatar Airways CEO Opens New Kuwait Office

Kuwait City, KUWAIT – Qatar Airways has opened a brand new ticketing, reservations and administrative office in the heart of the business district of Kuwait City.

Serving members of the public, the travel trade, as well as being the new location for Qatar Airways’ administrative staff, the new office is located in one of the tallest buildings in the capital of the State of Kuwait.

The office, located in Alrakan Tower within Safat district, is three times larger than the old premises. It offers a modern, airy and contemporary ambience, providing visitors with a warm welcome and plenty of open space to relax and book their tickets.

Ticketing, reservations and Qatar Airways Holidays are located on the mezzanine floor, while Qatar Airways’ administrative office encompassing finance, cargo and back-office functions, is located on the 14th floor. The office is headed up by Area Manager Kuwait, Mohammed Yusef Al Jumairi.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker officially opened the new office today in the presence of more than 70 local dignitaries and VIPs, including travel agents, tour operators, corporates and members of the media.

On a two-day official visit to Kuwait for the annual meeting of the Arab Air Carriers Organisation, Al Baker said the new office was much needed to cope with the growth in the number of business and leisure passengers flying Qatar Airways.

“Our new office will appeal to many visitors because of its location and contemporary feel,” he said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The new office only reinforces the importance of the growing bond between both Qatar and Kuwait, two countries with strong cultural and social links. We at Qatar Airways are looking to develop stronger ties with our flights and superior inflight service to serve passengers of both countries.”

Qatar Airways currently operates 25 flights a week between Kuwait City and the airline’s hub in Doha, capital of the State of Qatar. The carrier operates a mix of young and modern Airbus A330s, A320s, A321s and A319s on the Kuwait – Doha route offering passengers a choice of First and Economy Class.

Al Baker added that Qatar Airways’ flights from Kuwait offered excellent connections to many of the airline’s 70 online destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East and Indian subcontinent.

“During 2007, Qatar Airways will offer passengers from Kuwait an exciting new choice of destinations as we launch seven routes over the next 12 months. From New York, Bali and Ho Chi Minh City to Lagos, Dar Es Salaam and two new points in Europe, Qatar Airways will be spreading its wings further afield.”

Al Baker also revealed that Qatar Airways’ new Premium Terminal for exclusive use of its First and Business Class passengers at Doha International Airport, is scheduled to open this weekend.

As the world’s only dedicated terminal for premium passengers – built in just nine months at a cost of US$90 million – it will offer facilities ranging from spas, jacuzzis, duty-free shopping and fine dining.

The Premium Terminal will be ready in time for the 15th Asian Games taking place in Doha between December 1 – 15. Qatar Airways is the Official Airline of the Asian Games, which promises to be the biggest ever in Games history.

Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
