DOHA - Qatar Airways has announced the renowned television channel Al Jazeera as a platinum sponsor of the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit, taking place in Doha on May 1 – May 3, 2004.
The Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit, hosted by Qatar Airways, will be held in the Middle East for the first time and attract 700 of the most influential people in the world’s tourism industry, ministers from more than 30 governments and an international media contingent of around 150 journalists.
The platinum sponsorship agreement was announced by Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Officer Mr Akbar Al Baker and Al Jazeera’s General Manager Mr Wadah Khanfar in a press conference today.
“I am pleased to announce that Al Jazeera will be supporting the Summit as a platinum sponsor. Their contribution will add great global prestige to this industry event of the year,” said Mr. Akbar Al Baker.
“Al Jazeera have generously promoted the Summit to their millions of viewers right across the world.
“Through its generous support of the Summit, Al Jazeera is demonstrating the great importance it attaches to supporting an industry that employs millions of people across the globe.
“Al Jazeera’s support will also mean that the important discussions about the future directions of the world tourism industry that will occur at the Summit will be covered from an Arabic perspective,” said Mr Al Baker.
The Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit will be held at the Sheraton Hotel from May 1-3.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
