DOHA - Qatar: Qatar Airways has announced the Commercial Bank as a Platinum Sponsor of the 4th Global Travel and Tourism Summit taking place in Doha from May 1 – 3, 2004.

The sponsorship agreement was announced at a press conference today by Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Mr. Akbar Al Baker and Commercial Banks’ Chairman H.E. Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Attiyah.

The Summit, which is being held in the Middle East for the first time and is being hosted by Qatar Airways, will attract 700 top executives and chairmen of prominent travel and tourism companies from around the world, ministers from more than 30 countries, and a media contingent of 150 journalists, to discuss this year’s topic “Driving Change”.

“Qatar Airways would like to extend its’ heartfelt thanks to Commercial Bank for their cooperation and generosity in contributing to this tourism industry event of the year,” said Mr Al Baker.

“With the support of our platinum sponsor - Commercial Bank – the world-wide tourism industry can look forward to a successful event, and move forwards in a very meaningful way.

“The support of Commercial Bank also ensures that Doha and Qatar are placed under the international spotlight and are showcased to some of the most influential leaders in the tourism industry.

“By hosting the World Travel and Tourism Summit, Qatar will undoubtedly reap the benefits of this international summit, and with the contribution of the Commercial Bank we can anticipate an outstanding event we can all be proud of,” said Mr Al Baker.

The World Travel & Tourism Summit is being held in the Middle East for the first time, and its objective is to generate discussions between top leaders in the industry to examine the future of the industry.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker is also due to announce his grand plan for tourism in Qatar during the event.

The WTTC represents 100 of the most important travel and tourism companies in the world, including major airlines, tour operators, and hotel chains.

The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
