Formerly known as Canton, Guangzhou is the third largest city in China and a major cultural and commercial centre for this growing economy. For over two millennia this hugely important city has been at the centre of trading in the region, and today is just as important on the global stage.

Book a flight to Guangzhou with Qatar Airways and you’ll discover a forward-focused city that still maintains its traditional values of courtesy, hard work and honour.

For centuries, Guangzhou (formerly known as Canton), was an important trade harbour that connected China with other countries along the Silk Road. Today, it continues to live up to its economic potential as one of China’s four financial hubs.

Partially isolated by mountains, Guangzhou is teeming with both manmade and natural attractions. It also has an eclectic mix of old and new cultural influences, from ancient temples to imperial tombs. Fly to Guangzhou with Qatar Airways and explore the largest city in the Guangdong Province.

Check the price of flights to Guangzhou further below and book Economy or Premium Class flights to Guangzhou with Qatar Airways to discover the city that was the cradle of revolutions and reforms that profoundly affected the face of modern China.

Flying from Casablanca

Immortalised in film and one of the world’s most romantic locations, Casablanca is also served by an international airport that is highly regarded for its quality of service. Passengers flying from Casablanca with Qatar Airways will find a sublime and cool environment where friendly staff ensure that your journey starts as pleasantly as possible.

Facilities are good, providing you with everything you need for a great passenger experience, from local food and drinks to retailers selling high-value accessories for those last-minute impulse buys.

Transportation and parking

A train service operates from Casablanca and the port to the airport, with a journey time of approximately 45 minutes from the centre of the city. This is the easiest and most convenient way to travel to the airport, and links into a network of connections serving other areas of the country.

Taxis are plentiful, but it is advisable to ask your hotel to arrange one in advance to ensure you are charged the correct fare for your journey.

Arriving in Casablanca

Passengers flying from Casablanca with Qatar Airways depart from Terminal 2. Special VIP services are available – you will need to book these in advance. For regular flights it is advisable to arrive at least two hours in advance of your departure time to clear check-in and customs.

Facilities and amenities

Wi-Fi is available in public areas throughout Terminal 2, and a small business centre in the main hall of Terminal 1 offers a range of fax and photocopying services.

There are banking and ATM facilities in both T1 and T2, and it is advisable to change any local currency (dirhams) before going through security. The Moroccan dirham is a closed currency, so it cannot be traded outside the country.

A selection of retail outlets sell a range of local goods and accessories, while refreshments are offered at the cafés, stalls and restaurants selling both Moroccan and international cuisine.

Arriving in Guangzhou

Formerly known as Canton, Guangzhou is the third largest city in China and a major cultural and commercial centre for this growing economy. For over two millennia this hugely important city has been at the centre of trading in the region, and today is just as important on the global stage.

Book a flight to Guangzhou with Qatar Airways and you’ll discover a forward-focused city that still maintains its traditional values of courtesy, hard work and honour.

Surrounded by magnificent mountain ranges, its relatively remote location means that this remarkable city has developed a unique sense of identity and a very individual character. Its values are perhaps a little less conservative than other parts of China, and even its cuisine is distinctive, making it a fascinating destination for both business and leisure travellers.

Tourist attractions

One of the main landmarks in the city is Xiguan Residence, a perfectly preserved example of traditional Cantonese architectures from the late Qing Dynasty, and one home to the upper class residents of the city.

For a moment’s peace and tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping area, rest a while in the stunning Yuexiu Park, the largest urban park in China with acres of beautifully manicured borders and wide open spaces.

In fact, this huge city is full of gardens and parks, including Yuntai Garden, situated at the base of Cloud Mountain and famous for its selection of rare plants and flowers.

The city is full of museums (note that most museums are closed on Mondays). One of the most important archaeological finds in China is the Mausoleum of the Nanyue King, with its thousands of jade tiles, while at the foot of Bayiun Mountain is the Guangzhou Sculpture Park, which displays work by some of the region’s best sculptors.

Travel considerations

Flights to Guangzhou with Qatar Airways land at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, second only to Hong Kong as an air transport hub for the region.

Visa restrictions for entry into the country will depend on your country of origin, length of stay and whether your trip is for business or pleasure. Before you fly to Guangzhou please check the visa and passport requirements.
