Qatar Airways To Host Exclusive Opening Night After Party At Doha Tribeca Film Festival

A myriad of events will be showcased in and around the State of Qatar’s capital Doha, including the glamorous Opening Night Screening and the Opening Night After Party, both supported by Qatar Airways.

The Official Airline of the Doha Tribeca Film Festival sponsorship provides Qatar Airways with the opportunity to present its Five-Star hospitality with events promising to be the most talked-about on Qatar’s social calendar this year.

The Opening Night Screening, which Qatar Airways is Principle Partner of, will be held tomorrow night (October 25) at the Katara Open Air Theatre (KOAT) within Katara Cultural Village, where approximately 2,000 guests are expected to attend the world premiere of Black Gold.

The much-awaited screening has a significant link to the State of Qatar – with the film being Doha Film Institute’s and Qatar’s first major international co-production and one of the biggest projects to be made in Arab Cinema history.

A large portion of the film scenes were shot in the spectacular desert dunes of Mesaieed, just south of Doha, with over 200 residents and locals serving various production roles – behind and in front of the camera. The film features world renowned stars Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Tahar Rahim, Riz Ahmed and Mark Strong, with most of them in attendance at the opening night.

The event will be followed by the exclusive Opening Night After Party, hosted by the airline at a custom-built outdoor venue at the Intercontinental Hotel, with a bespoke Qatar Airways VIP lounge area.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “During this exciting time the city is all-abuzz in anticipation of the upcoming films. Qatar Airways is proud to be a part of the Festival, providing convenient access into Doha through the airline’s non-stop routes.”

The airline’s expansive network of 107 destinations worldwide provides a convenient link for film celebrities, production teams, members of the media, honourary guests and film buffs to travel to Doha for the Film Festival.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of over 100 aircraft to diverse business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America. By 2013, the fleet size will increase to more than 120 aircraft.

So far this year, Qatar Airways has added 12 destinations to its international map – Bucharest, Budapest, Brussels, Stuttgart, Aleppo, Shiraz, Venice, Montreal, Medina, Kolkata, Sofia and Oslo – and is gearing up for more route expansion with a further two destinations – Entebbe and Chongqing – being inducted into the network by the end of next month.

Qatar Airways operates one of the youngest fleet of aircraft in the skies today. It has orders worth over US$ 40 billion for more than 200 aircraft, including Boeing 787s, 777s, Airbus A350s, A380s, A320 Family of aircraft and Bombardier corporate jets. The rapid expansion of Qatar Airways prompted the State of Qatar to embark on one of its biggest projects – the construction of a brand new international airport in Doha, which is scheduled to open in 2012.
