1. Scotland

Scotland is one of the best summer vacation destinations in Europe. Although seasonal temperatures often sit between 15 and 18°C, they can occasionally reach 20 to 25°C. Mountains are covered with purple heather, and the lochs shimmer in the sunshine. .

The west coast and islands such as Skye boast majestic peaks, while the east coast features flatter, fertile terrain. Look out for herds of red deer in the Scottish Highlands and a variety of native wildlife including red squirrels, golden eagles and otters.

2. New Zealand

June and July are the winter months in the south of the globe, making New Zealand the ideal destination to escape the northern hemisphere’s summer heat. Winter is also the best time to go skiing or snowboarding at one of the country’s busy resorts in the South Island.

Offshore, this is the perfect time to go whale watching at Victor Harbor in Southern Australia, or marvel at humpback whales in Albany and Augusta in Western Australia. Take a road trip along the Great Ocean Road or head to Kangaroo Island to check out plenty of endemic wildlife.

4. Scandinavia

During summer in Scandinavia, daylight hours are long and beautiful landscapes steal the show. Northern Norway is the Land of the Midnight Sun, where it’s never truly dark during the summer months. Head to the Lofoten Islands to take in spectacular views or unwind on sweeping beaches.

Chile’s Patagonia region is home to temperate rainforests and tranquil lakes in Los Lagos, while Aysén features fjords and huge ice fields. Wander through the marble caves on Lake General Carrera, or roam around the Torres del Paine National Park.
