Marvellous Malaga

The architecture of Malaga remains one of its most striking features. A famous structure is the Alcazaba, a vast 11th-century fortress perched above the city. Surrounded by high stone walls and interwoven with picturesque inner courtyards, it’s the epitome of Moorish design. Wander through its shady gardens, where fountains and pools in the Patio de la Alberca bring a cool elegance to the space. Just above the Alcazaba lies Gibralfaro Castle, boasting watchtowers and walls offering even more impressive vistas.

Captivating Cordoba

Known as the city of flowers, Cordoba is a dream for architecture lovers. It’s home to the awe-inspiring Mesquita de Córdoba, a renowned example of Islamic architecture. Visit this UNESCO World Heritage Site to admire its striped arches and exquisite mihrab by day, and soft illumination by night. Elsewhere in the city, the Alcázar Fortress features lush gardens and towers with breath-taking views. Just a short walk away is Plaza de la Corredera, a lively square perfect for people watching or a midday coffee.

Sensational Seville

Seville is one of the finest showcases of Moorish influence in Spain – a city where architectural splendour and Islamic art intertwine. At its heart stands the Royal Alcázar, a 10th-century regal residence with gorgeous tile mosaics reflecting the height of Andalusian craftsmanship. Nearby you’ll find La Giralda, the city’s most iconic bell tower and a symbol of its history, which was once the minaret of the Great Mosque. Another highlight is the Casa de Pilatos, a 16th-century palace with Mudéjar detailing.

Graceful Granada

Granada’s crowning jewel of Moorish architecture is the Alhambra – a masterpiece of Islamic art and one of Spain’s most treasured monuments. Its Nasrid Palaces have some of the grandest interiors in Andalusia, displaying a poetic blend of symmetry and shadows. To delve further into Granada’s Moorish past, head to the hillside Albaicín district, with its winding alleys and whitewashed houses. End your visit by watching the sunset at the Mirador de San Nicolás, with panoramic views of the Alhambra bathed in golden light.
