How does Rail&Fly work?

Rail&Fly of Deutsche Bahn

What is Deutsche Bahn's Rail&Fly?

Rail&Fly is offered in cooperation with Deutsche Bahn (DB), the leading mobility provider in rail transport in Germany. With Rail&Fly, you can travel comfortably by train from one of the more than 5,600 DB stations to the airport when you fly with Qatar Airways - and back again. You don't have to commit to a specific train when booking, but only choose the best train connection for your flight at check-in under www.rail-checkin.com. Rail&Fly is an eco-friendly, flexible and stress-free way to travel to and from the airport.

The German airports are excellently connected to the DB rail network. With 180 direct long-distance trains and more than 100 destinations within Germany and neighboring countries, Frankfurt Airport, for example, is one of the central long-distance train stations in Germany.

How to get your train ticket

 1. In the flight search panel, select “Rail and Fly Germany” or “QYG” and enter your desired travel destination

2. Select your travel dates

3. Click search and enjoy an effortless connection to your final destination

Rail&Fly can only be booked together with the flight, a subsequent booking of Rail&Fly is not possible.

During the booking process:

What you'll see

For technical reasons, fictitious train numbers (starting with W2), a generic departure point (QYG - representing all DB stations) and fictitious departure and arrival times of train connections will be displayed on your itinerary. You can select the actual departure and arrival points or a real train connection at check-in on www.rail-checkin.com. Please choose the appropriate train connection so that you arrive at the airport in good time at least 2 hours before departure.

Please pay particular attention to which airport (Frankfurt/Munich/Berlin/Düsseldorf) you are departing from and where you are arriving again. When booking and planning your trip, please note that departure and arrival airports may be different when choosing Rail&Fly.

How to get your train ticket

After you have completed your booking, you will receive another email from Qatar Airways in addition to the booking confirmation for your flights, detailing your itinerary with the fictitious train connections. For administrative reasons, you will receive this email the day after your booking.

Please note that you must check in before boarding a train to retrieve your Rail&Fly ticket.

To retrieve your Rail&Fly train ticket, you need to check in for your train journey at www.rail-checkin.com. Please complete the check-in as early as possible.

Step 1: Visit the website www.rail-checkin.com
Step 2: Enter your name and your PNR/booking number or e-ticket number to identify yourself
Step 3: Add passengers traveling with you
Step 4: Select your departure station, travel date, and departure time
Step 5: Choose your preferred train journey (recommended arrival time at the airport is at least 3 hours before departure)
Step 6: Enter your email address and select "Check-in."

You can now download your train ticket, and it will also be sent to you by email. You can also log in again later to download your train ticket once more.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When is check-in possible?

Check-in is possible immediately after the flight ticket has been issued, but no more than 180 days in advance. Further restrictions may result from the timetable times of Deutsche Bahn.

It is recommended to check in as early as possible.

2. Do I have to select a specific train at check-in?

If there is no real train connection indicated on the flight ticket, you must select a specific train connection.

3. The train I want to take is not shown at check-in - why?

To avoid overbooking, long-distance trains with an expected exceptionally high occupancy rate on all sales channels will be blocked for new bookings. These are usually trains in which all seats are already fully booked and the transport of additional passengers can no longer be guaranteed. These trains are therefore not displayed on rail-checkin.com.

4. Can several people check in at the same time (group check-in)?

If several passengers with the same PNR (identified by the same booking code/record locator) use the same rail connection, you (max. 5 people) can check in together and receive a common ticket. Alternatively, each person can check in separately. Groups of more than 5 travelers check in divided into small groups of a maximum of 5 people.

If passengers in a group want to use different departure or destination stations or choose different train connections, a separate check-in is required.

5. Why can't I check in an infant (0 – 1 year)?

Infants under 2 years of age do not need a ticket and therefore do not need to be checked in.

6. I am having problems with the check-in process, what should I do?

Please contact your travel agent or airline if you have any problems.

7. If a specific train is indicated on the train ticket, can I still take any other train?

Yes, the train ticket can be used flexibly on the selected route on the selected day of travel, i.e. it is not tied to a specific train. Please note that the day of travel and the selected route cannot be changed once you have checked in.

However, it is your own responsibility to plan your trip so that you arrive at the airport on time.

8. I want to arrive at the airport the day before my flight / I want to leave the airport the day after my flight arrives. Is that possible?

Yes. If you have booked Rail&Fly, you can choose a connection during the check-in process on the day of departure or the day before or on the day of arrival or the day after.

Please note that the chosen day and route are binding.

9. Does my train ticket include a seat reservation?

If you have a 1st class ticket, a seat reservation is already included free of charge. You can find the assigned seats on your train ticket.

If you have a 2nd class ticket, you can book a seat reservation via www.bahn.de, the DB Navigator app or at any DB Travel Centre.

10. I can't find my ticket anymore, what should I do?

If you have lost your ticket, you can log in to rail-checkin.com at any time and download the ticket again until the day of travel.

11. My flight has been rebooked or cancelled, what do I need to know?

In the event of a change or cancellation, your train ticket will be automatically canceled. You will receive a cancellation confirmation by email and will be asked to check in again to receive a new train ticket.

12. Do I have access to the DB Lounges with my ticket?

As a 1st class passenger, you have free access to the DB lounges.
