The Citadel is located on Amman’s highest hill, Jebel al-Qala’a and is the location of the modern city’s predcessor, Rabbath-Ammon. It is surrounded by a beautifully preserved wall, but its most striking features are the Temple of Hercules and the Ummayad Palace.

This internationally renowned museum is packed full of artefacts from as far back as the Bronze age, and helps visitors understand the context of many of the city’s monuments and ruins such as the Roman amphitheatre.
King Abdullah’s mosque is a must-see for its stunning blue dome and its Islamic museum, while Darat al Funun or 'small house of the arts' in Jabal el Weibdeh is an intimate art gallery that demonstrates the city’s love of culture and beauty.
