In central Kolkata your focal point is the magnificent open parkland known as Maidan, which offers a tranquil respite from the traffic and noise for a while. Close by you’ll find a clutch of attractions including the imposing citadel of Fort William (visits by prior arrangement only), and the city’s most famous landmark, the towering Victoria Monument, carved from white marble.
