Things to do in Bogota

Discover Colombia’s history and its connection to gold. Prepare to be dazzled by the astonishing collection of gold artefacts at the Museo del Oro.
Did you know that Bogota is famous for its incredible street art? The best places to see this colourful display are La Candelaria and Las Aguas areas.
When night falls, explore Carrera Septima. You’ll see street entertainment, musicians and performers filling the streets, alongside craft stalls selling local wares and authentic street food to tempt your taste buds.
Activities in Bogota
South American football is almost a religion, so a visit to the stadium when a match is on is a must. Grab a ticket for the east or west wings for the best views, and join 40,000 other passionate fans in cheering the players on.
If you’re visiting on a Sunday, you can experience Ciclovía: a government-run initiate where 120 kilometres of major roads are closed to cars, allowing pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers to reclaim the streets.
For a day trip out of the city, the La Chorrera Waterfall is a spectacular natural wonder. Colombia’s tallest waterfall is just an hour’s bus ride from the city centre and is surrounded by beautiful walking trails.
Staying in the city is just as rewarding. Explore Parque Metropolitano Simon Bolivar, the green heart of Bogota and the largest urban park in the Americas.
Food in Bogota
Colombian and Bogotan cuisines offers a variety of flavours and combinations. The city’s signature dish is ajiaco, a hearty soup made from potatoes, chicken, corn, herbs, rice and avocados.
A must-try is the Bogotan tortilla ‘arepa boyacense’, stuffed with cheese and served with barbecued beef.
If you have a sweet tooth, oblea is the local sweet street food that everyone loves. It’s a large wafer sandwich with fillings such as arequipe (caramel), chocolate drops, jam and sprinkles.
Fine dining is plentiful, especially in the centre of the city. You’ll find a plethora of restaurants serving a huge variety of cuisines. Head to Zona G, where you’ll find world-class restaurants lining every street.
Shopping in Bogota
For some high-quality crafts and a wonderfully vibrant bohemian ambience, the La Candelaria historic neighbourhood is the place to go. Here you’ll find bespoke souvenirs from local artists and craftspeople. The city is famous for its leather goods, emerald gemstone and gold jewellery.
Sunday is market day! One of the best is located close to Las Aguas station, or opt for the street stalls along Carrera 7. Explore the sprawling stands for antiques, trinkets and even some sizzling street food.
For some upscale and airconditioned shopping, Zona T is the area to go. You’ll be surrounded by some of the city’s biggest shopping malls, filled with high-end boutiques and designer stores.
