Things to do in Bogota

Get up early (to beat the crowds and the heat) and climb the 1,500 steps up to Monserrate Sanctuary for some of the best panoramic views of the city. If you don’t feel that energetic, you can take the funicular railway to the top instead.

Discover Colombia’s history and its connection to gold. Prepare to be dazzled by the astonishing collection of gold artefacts at the Museo del Oro.

Did you know that Bogota is famous for its incredible street art? The best places to see this colourful display are La Candelaria and Las Aguas areas.

When night falls, explore Carrera Septima. You’ll see street entertainment, musicians and performers filling the streets, alongside craft stalls selling local wares and authentic street food to tempt your taste buds.

Activities in Bogota

South American football is almost a religion, so a visit to the stadium when a match is on is a must. Grab a ticket for the east or west wings for the best views, and join 40,000 other passionate fans in cheering the players on.

If you’re visiting on a Sunday, you can experience Ciclovía: a government-run initiate where 120 kilometres of major roads are closed to cars, allowing pedestrians, cyclists, and joggers to reclaim the streets.

For a day trip out of the city, the La Chorrera Waterfall is a spectacular natural wonder. Colombia’s tallest waterfall is just an hour’s bus ride from the city centre and is surrounded by beautiful walking trails.

Staying in the city is just as rewarding. Explore Parque Metropolitano Simon Bolivar, the green heart of Bogota and the largest urban park in the Americas.

If you have a sweet tooth, oblea is the local sweet street food that everyone loves. It’s a large wafer sandwich with fillings such as arequipe (caramel), chocolate drops, jam and sprinkles.
