DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Airways partnered with Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities this year to shine the spotlight on Autism Awareness Month by introducing limited-time amenity kits featuring artwork by artists with autism and lit its headquarters in blue to mark the month.
The airline held an autism awareness employee event at Hamad International Airport to offer an overview of its sensory lounge and the tools available at the lounge to highlight the importance of supporting neurodivergent passengers and the airline.
Artwork from four artists at Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities were selected for the honorary Qatar Airways’ long-haul Economy Cabin amenity kits throughout the month of April. Premimum Cabin passengers received amenity kits raising awareness about the yearly campaign.
Also during April, educational seminars were held and a group of Qatar Airways cabin crew members visited the Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disabilities who presented gifts to individuals with autism and joined an employee celebration at its headquarters.
While the airline marked Autism Awareness Month in April, its dedication to the unique needs of those with autism runs all year long. Situated between gates C7 and C9 at Hamad International Airport is the Muzn lounge – a sensory room designed as a safe space for travellers with autism. It offers interactive sensory stimulants to aid in reducing stress caused by travel. Qatar Airways also conducts employee workshops on such facilities as part of providing a world-class passenger-centric travel experience.
Marking 10 years of support and social engagement, Qatar Airways maintains a strong partnership with Shafallah to employ more than 55 individuals with mental disabilities and autism at the Qatar Airway Shafallah Department in efforts to normalise health limitations and extend its support to the local community. The department has most notably empowered its workforce while at the same time aided in waste reduction by recycling 1,000 Premium Cabin amenity kits daily.
To utilise the Muzn Lounge when travelling, passengers can input the code “DPNA” when booking their flight with Qatar Airways or during the check-in process for staff members to guide them towards the lounge upon check-in.
