Things to do in Hail

Any visit to Hail should include a trip to the magnificent Al Qishla Palace. Built in the 1940s by King Abdul Aziz, it’s an ode to the architectural brilliance of the ornamental Najdi style.

Head to A’arif Fort, an imposing structure from the 17th century that will reward you with a glimpse into the region’s past and sweeping panoramic views of the entire desert city.

Part of the Jubbah UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the astonishing 10,000-year-old cliff-face pictographs. These incredible drawings trace back to the earliest human presence in Arabia, when the desert bloomed and huge oryx roamed freely – standing as witnesses to the area’s undeniable legacy.

Stroll around AlAziziyah farm and discover a place where the grass is indeed greener. Spanning over eight million square meters, its olive groves and citrus orchards call you in for a peaceful picnic. After reconnecting with the earth, take to the air at the aviation club or trot along a camel ride. 

Activities in Hail

Make your way to Al Nafud Desert. Its huge, crescent-shaped red dunes are perfect for high-octane 4x4 fun, and you can stay in traditional Bedouin campsites where at night, the clear desert skies are filled with stars. This adventure playground is also the perfect place to experience camel rides and safaris, quad-biking and sandboarding.

If a hike is something you can’t pass up, trek through Al Samara Park – a serene oasis with trails and magnificent views of the city from Jabal al Samra in the Shammar Mountains. At night, the lake at the centre of the park becomes the focus of attention, with sparkling lights creating an enthralling spectacle.

For more excitement-fuelled moments, join the crowds as they support the two main football teams, Al-Tai and Al-Jabalain, who compete in national and international matches at the Prince Abdulaziz bin Musaed Sports City Stadium.

Food in Hail

Hail is known for its culinary scene, blending traditional and modern flavours with panache. Shopping in Hail

Stroll through the Hail Souq for a traditional shopping experience. The commercial centre has been at the very heart of trade since the earliest days of the ancient desert caravans. Here, you can find hand-woven fabrics, aromatic spices, artisan rugs, silverware and gold jewellery. The atmosphere is lively, the haggling frantic and there are bargains to be had. Wander away from the main souq and you’ll also find stalls along the streets and alleyways surrounding the main square.

A little further beyond, you’ll even find plenty of modern shopping options. The city is home to several large malls offering both local goods and high-end brands, from clothing to everyday essentials. They’re a great place to shop in comfort, thanks to the cool, air-conditioned interiors.
