Marrakech promises a trip to remember and will capture your heart, drawing you back again and again.

Things to do in Marrakech
Roam around the Medina and the main square, Jamâa El-Fnaa, for the ultimate souk experience. A labyrinth of alleyways, bazaars and stalls will tempt you, along with entertainers such as traditional snake charmers, acrobats, musicians and soothsayers. After watching a show, head to the Saadian Tombs. Undiscovered for hundreds of years, they’re adorned with zelij (Moroccan tiles) and spectacular decorations.
To immerse yourself in a tranquil setting, take a stroll around Menara Gardens. Once a royal retreat, this beautiful space is home to a spectacular lakeside pavilion. Or visit Marrakech’s oldest monument, the 12th-century Almoravid Koubba.

Activities in Marrakech
Escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech’s busy streets in the small but beautiful Majorelle Gardens. This oasis of calm is also home to the Berber Museum, where you can learn about the native tribes of the region. Or visit the peaceful Koutoubia Mosque with its towering minaret, one of the symbols of Marrakech.
Want to explore the great outdoors? You’ll be glad to know that Marrakech is the starting point for desert and Atlas Mountains treks, including horseback and camel tours. Take a camel ride through the Palmeraie on the outskirts of the city and you’ll be surrounded by forests of palm trees.
For a little pampering, relax in one of the city’s famous hammams. From massages and spa treatments to authentic Moroccan baths, there are plenty of options to choose from.

Food in Marrakech
Moroccan dishes are among the most recognisable and widely known in North African cuisine. Distinctive tagine stews are prepared with slow-cooked meat and vegetables served in conical pots, making dining a social occasion. A popular favourite is couscous – a semolina grain that’s steamed and mixed with vegetables and meat (usually lamb). Make sure to also try harira, a rich and hearty tomato-based soup with chickpeas and lentils. Up for something a little more exotic? Get yourself a bowl of babbouche – snails are slowly-cooked in a fragrant broth packed with warm spices like anise, thyme and cloves.
If you have a sweet tooth, the perfect dessert is chebakia – a crispy, honey-drenched pastry flavoured with sesame seeds and anise. Be sure to try ghriba cookies with a cup of tea for an authentic Moroccan experience. These traditional cookies have a nutty, cinnamon-laced base and are topped with powdered sugar.

Shopping in Marrakech
Planning a shopping spree in Marrakech? You have to stop by the markets and souks of the Old Quarter. Clustered around Djemaa El-Fnaa is the city’s largest souk, but wander through the streets and you’ll discover plenty of smaller markets. They all offer a huge selection of items and souvenirs such as polished brass trinkets and jewellery.
The city’s tanneries keep the stalls supplied with high-quality leather goods including camel leather jackets, shoes and bags. For something a little more unusual, look for the local cactus silk. It’s actually a natural rayon product that dyes well and produces vibrantly coloured textiles. To find original Moroccan ceramics, browse through the Potter’s Souk, brimming with brightly coloured bowls, tagines and plates.
