DOHA, Qatar - Qatar Airways this week celebrated the State of Qatar’s National Sports Day, a public holiday in Qatar designed to celebrate the values, traditions and benefits of sports.
Qatar’s Minister of Transport and Communications, His Excellency Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker joined thousands of Qatar Airways employees and their family members on Tuesday 9 February in Doha to take part in a day of fun-filled activities, including football tournaments, basketball, cricket and much more.
As members of the Qatar Airways Group, employees are no strangers to the Group’s close alignment to sport, given the high profile sponsorships that the airline enjoys. From the recent Exxon Mobil Tennis Championships and the International Premier Tennis League - Asia, through to the airline’s high profile sponsorship of FC Barcelona, Qatar Airways has aligned itself with a variety of sporting partnerships around the world as it reflects the sentiment of ambition and team spirit within the core of the airline itself.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, commented: “I am proud that as a nation, sport is celebrated with a dedicated national holiday. Our government’s 2030 vision encourages the participation in a variety of cultural and sporting activities and as an airline, and as a commercial ambassador for my State, we have closely aligned ourselves to this vision. Qatar Airways currently sponsors FC Barcelona, Al Ahli Saudi Arabia FC, Qatar Stars League, Qatar Squash Federation, the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) Asia, Pakistan Super Cricket League (PSL) and Asia and the Qatar Football Association.

The Qatar Airways Cargo fleet now includes seven Airbus 330, eight Boeing 777 freighters and one Boeing 747 freighter.
