Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways today announced its sponsorship of the 2nd annual Doha Tribeca Film Festival. The sponsorship follows a tradition at Qatar Airways in supporting local initiatives in the carrier’s home state of Qatar.
The airline’s expansive route network of 93 destinations spanning six continents makes the Festival within reach for those flying in from all over the globe. Many of the invited celebrities, special guests and dignitaries will fly Qatar Airways to attend the five-day Festival. The airline will also be the official host of the Opening Night Gala after-party, a star-studded launch event which will kick-off the Festival.
As the Doha Film Institute's annual celebration of all things film, the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) is a community-minded five-day event that showcases the best of Arab and international films. Launched in 2009, DTFF is an international festival, organised by a Doha based team of more than 30 nationalities and 200 staff. Last year the Festival saw more than 20,000 people in attendance, and now with an additional day and more than 20 films added to the programme, this year’s Festival is expected to generate even more engagement from the community.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker signed the sponsorship agreement along with Amanda Palmer, Executive Director of the Doha Film Institute.
Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways welcomes visitors to Doha travelling from the four corners of the globe to experience our 5-star service on board. The Festival promises to be a showcase of top film talent, and with Doha named the Cultural Capital of the Middle East for 2010, the spotlight is ever more relevant.”
Palmer thanked Qatar Airways for their continued support, and said: “The success of the Festival owes a great deal to the support extended by our partners, who share our vision of bringing global communities together through the universal language of film. DTFF is a cultural investment for Qatar and the region, committed to promoting Arab filmmakers, and we are excited about reaching this objective with the support of our esteemed patrons.”
