Kuwait City, KUWAIT – Qatar Airways today unveiled details of its advertising campaign promoting the airline’s forthcoming route launch to Houston – the airline’s first new destination of 2009.
Linking the world’s energy capitals, Qatar Airways adopts the theme in newspapers, magazines, TV, radio and online across the GCC, South Asia, Houston and surrounding areas.
Qatar Airways has also created a dedicated microsite www.qatarairways.com/houston at which visitors can easily navigate through a wealth of information on Houston and the Gulf region with details of the new route, a video guide about the onboard experience, as well as a comprehensive directory of useful links and resources.
March 30th is the official launch date of the Doha-based carrier’s third US route with daily scheduled services to Houston set to be one of the world’s longest non-stop flights with a journey time of just under 17 hours. The route is expected to attract significant traffic from key markets, including South Asia.
The airline will offer unprecedented levels of space and comfort onboard its 259-seat, two-class Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft on the route.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the aggressive promotional drive, which includes a series of gala dinners across the GCC, was a perfect way to promote what is set to be one of the airline’s most successful long-haul routes.
“Eighteen months ago, Qatar Airways launched its US operations with flights to New York and Washington DC which have grown from strength to strength,” he said.
“Both routes are now daily non-stop operated with our new long-haul flagship aircraft, the Boeing 777. From March 30th, we launch non-stop flights between Doha and Houston using our brand new Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft, the first of which we take delivery of early next month.
The Houston launch advertising campaign includes specially produced 30-second television commercials being showcased across major international TV news networks featuring the airline’s best attributes – award-winning hospitality and promoting strong energy links between Doha and Houston.
The Houston microsite includes a calendar of events and provides visitors with tips on things to do in the Gulf and in Houston, favourite places to visit and dine, live weather and flight information, as well as product videos and interactive tours of Qatar Airways’ inflight experience, including its new flat bed business class seats onboard the Boeing 777s. Visitors to the site can even share their feedback and experiences online of things to do in Houston and the Gulf region.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuwait City today, Qatar Airways Regional Manager Arabian Peninsula, Ali Abdul Khaliq said the new advertising campaign would reach out to the travelling public using all forms of media – TV, print, radio and online.
“Our award-winning Five Star service is spreading far and wide with Houston our newest and 84th destination in our ever-growing international network,” he said.
“With excellent early morning connections from Kuwait and the rest of the Gulf to Doha and beyond to Houston, Qatar Airways is offering a fantastic service to the southern half of the United States with an unrivalled onboard experience.”
Kuwait is the second stop of a GCC-wide roadshow during which Qatar Airways is visiting six cities promoting the new Houston route.
Added Khaliq: “There exist very close ties between the Arab business community and energy companies in the Gulf with those in and around the Houston area, and we look forward to establishing the new air bridge and facilitate travel between these vitally important global energy economies.
“Kuwait is a strategically important market for Qatar Airways with its abundant oil reserves and energy centre making it a perfect fit to transport decision makers from across the energy sector to and from Houston.
“Kuwait’s oil fields were discovered in the 1930s, Qatar’s oil was discovered in 1940 and Houston’s oil was discovered in 1901 so there is a natural synergy between these three key locations.”
The new Houston link will be the Qatar national carrier’s first foray into the southern United States, flying daily to Houston’s George Bush International Airport and offering both flexibility and convenience to business and leisure travellers.
Qatar Airways is to deploy a Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft on the Houston route in a two-class configuration of 42 seats in Business Class. Passengers will be able to enjoy comfortable and spacious seats offering a pitch of up to 78 inches with each seat converting into 180-degree full flat beds.
With a 2–2–2 seating configuration, Business Class passengers are assured of either a window or aisle seat and plenty of space.
In Economy Class, seat space is above the industry average with a pitch of up to 34 inches offering significant leg room, while the 217 seats in a 3–3–3 configuration is the most spacious of any airline flying to Houston.
Offering a superb experience in all class categories, Qatar Airways is renowned for its internationally acclaimed Five Star service, superior cuisine and on-board entertainment options, additionally earning the credit of being the first Middle East carrier to provide fully flat beds in business class to Houston.
Regardless of class of travel, passengers can enjoy the next generation interactive inflight entertainment with a choice of more than 700 audio and video on demand options. From music, documentaries, movies, sport, comedy, children’s programmes and interactive games, passengers are rest assured of a great choice of entertainment.
