Qatar Airways Supports World Diabetes Day

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways collaborated with the Qatar Diabetes Association to promote healthy eating in recognition of World Diabetes Day on November 14.

As part of the promotion, the airline teamed up with the association in designing an in-flight menu made up of healthy food options. The special one-off menu was served onboard Qatar Airways intra-Gulf flights on World Diabetes Day.

The airline’s Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the Doha-based carrier already served the highest quality food and welcomed the chance to highlight Qatar Airways as a conscientious and socially responsilble airline.

“Qatar Airways understands the importance of eating healthy in order to prevent the onset of sicknesses like diabetes. I certainly encourage my staff to eat well and live healthy lifestyles. Highlighting quality food intake on board our flights is a great way to let our passengers know that we care for their wellbeing.

“With the Gulf region having among the highest rates of diabetes in the entire world, the initiative from Qatar Diabetes Association is one that Qatar Airways welcomed and fully supported.”

Al Baker added: “The menus turned out to be very similar to what we already serve our passengers on a day-to-day basis, which is a great compliment to the quality of our in-flight meal service – that Qatar Airways presents healthy nutritious food to its passengers.”

In addition to the special meal service, Qatar Airways is also featuring an article on preventing diabetes in the current November issue of its in-flight magazine, Oryx. The editorial features recipes and tips on which foods are best to have – and best to avoid.

Qatar Airways is one of only six airlines in the world to be awarded a five-star ranking by independent industry monitoring agency Skytrax, an accolade the airline has maintained since 2004.

In the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2008, Qatar Airways’ First and Business Class food offerings were ranked among the top five in the world. Its Economy Class menu selection was also highly praised.
