Official Airline Qatar Airways Backs Most Successful Qatar Masters

Doha, QATAR – As Official Airline of this year’s Qatar Masters held at the Doha Golf Club, Qatar Airways hailed the event as the most successful tournament in its 11-year history.

The airline flew players and officials to Qatar for the Championship event, which featured a Pro-Am round as well as the professional tournament over five days.

Thousands of spectators turned out to watch some of the world’s best golfers battle it out for the ‘Mother of Pearl’ trophy with total prize money worth US$2.5 million – the richest in the tournament’s history.

Australia’s Adam Scott ripped up the course record with a sensational final round of 61 over 18 holes to take home the US$416,660 winner’s cheque and a luxury car. He romped home to a three-shot win over Sweden’s Henrik Stenson.

Qatar Airways’ Privilege Club loyalty team fielded a team for the Pro-Am tournament with professionals, amateurs and celebrities joining in the fun. Qatar Airways also hosted a putting competition for spectators with prizes on offer including a holiday to Amman, and two prizes of 15,000 and 6,000 Qmiles provided by the Privilege Club.

Qatar Airways had a dedicated hospitality suite for invitees and there was also an outdoor exhibition booth for visitors to learn more about the airline and its expansion plans.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker hailed the event, which attracted spectators and TV viewers from around the world.
“Golf truly has helped put Qatar firmly on the international sporting calendar and the tremendous response at this year’s Masters will ensure the tournament remains a firm fixture for years to come,” he said.

“This year’s event has been exciting and challenging and congratulations go out to Adam Scott for his achievement. Qatar Airways wishes him all the best for the coming year and looks forward to welcoming him back to Doha to defend his title in 2009.”

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of 60 Airbus and Boeing aircraft to 81 destinations worldwide.

Beginning March 31, Qatar Airways will launch services from Doha to the southern Chinese industrial city of Guangzhou and expand the number of flights to a host of other destinations in the airline’s rapidly growing network.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2009, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
