Kuwait City, KUWAIT – Qatar Airways has honoured the travel trade in Kuwait for its outstanding levels of support with a special gala dinner awards function held in Kuwait City.
Fifteen travel agents and three cargo agents were presented with awards for their valuable contribution to Qatar Airways over the past 12 months. Qatar Airways General Manager Commercial Ali Al Rais was the guest of honour at the event, hosted by the airline’s Regional Manager Arabian Peninsula, Ali Abdul Khaliq.
The event, held at the Movenpick Hotel and Convention Centre, also helped raise awareness of Qatar Airways’ newest summer routes to Geneva, New York and Washington DC.
Qatar Airways currently operates four flights a day between Kuwait City and Doha with connections to a host of cities across the airline’s international network that now spans 77 cities worldwide.
Geneva and New York became the airline's newest destinations launched on June 26 with four flights a week from Doha. From July 19, Qatar Airways launches daily non-stop flights between Doha and Washington DC.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said: “The travel industry is a key partner which no airline can afford to ignore, so I would like to thank travel agents and cargo agents in Kuwait for their outstanding support to Qatar Airways.
"We have enjoyed spectacular growth over the years and it has continued this summer with our route launches to Geneva, New York and soon, Washington DC."
Al Baker expressed his excitement over the new US flights, which mark the airline’s first move to America.
"Qatar Airways is delighted to be flying to the USA this summer and we want to share this historic move with our key partners in the travel industry," he said.
"With the launch of these new flights to New York and Washington, we are offering the travelling public from the GCC nations with greater choice and options of flying Qatar Airways' award-winning Five Star service.
"These launches are the highlight of our expansion plans for 2007 and are part of the airline’s strategy to grow its international route network to key business and leisure cities."
Qatar Airways flies four-times-a-week to Newark Liberty International Airport, gateway to New York City via Geneva. Daily non-stop scheduled services to Washington DC are due to be launched on July 19.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
