Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways is preparing for its historic launch to the United States this summer by promoting its brand new US routes to New York and Washington DC at the Middle East’s leading travel trade show next week.
Arabian Travel Market (ATM) is once again being staged at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre between May 1 – 4, with a strong American theme being the focus of Qatar Airways’ stand during the show.
From US-style entertainment and American food served on the stand, Qatar Airways is taking huge steps to make its participation at this year’s show yet another crowd puller.
The airline has also launched its new US media campaign across leading English and Arabic newspapers in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, ahead of the summer launch of the airline’s scheduled flights to both New York and Washington DC in June and July respectively.
The media campaign focuses on Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Bahrain – key selling markets for Qatar Airways to the United States. Striking, creative images of America’s most powerful icon – the Statue of Liberty in New York – are among those being used by Qatar Airways to illustrate the airline’s four flights a week from Doha, being launched on June 28. Daily scheduled services between Doha and Washington DC are due to begin on July 19.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the airline was gearing up for two of its most important route launches of 2007.
“We are extremely excited about taking our first steps into the US market this summer with the launch of flights from Doha to New York and Washington DC,” he said.
“Arabian Travel Market is the premier travel trade event in the Middle East that will attract visitors from across the travel industry from, not only the region, but from around the world, for what promises to be four days of productive business.
“Qatar Airways will have fabulous entertainment with a strong US theme on the stand. We will also be showcasing our unique First Class lounge, currently a key feature on our Airbus A340 aircraft, which is used on selected routes, including our soon-to-be-launched Washington service.”
Added Al Baker: “Our new US media campaign, which has kicked off in key publications across the GCC, further reinforces the message that Qatar Airways is ready for America this summer. With two gateway cities to the rest of the US being launched within a few weeks of each other, Qatar Airways is raring to go with these high profile launches, which will spread our award-winning Five Star service to yet another continent.”
Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of 57 all-Airbus aircraft to 75 destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East and the Indian subcontinent.
With a growing international network, more travellers have an opportunity to use Qatar Airways’ brand new Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport, exclusively for departing First and Business Class passengers.
The Premium Terminal features facilities such as a spa, jacuzzi, duty free, business centre and fine dining restaurants. Built in just nine months, the US$90 million terminal is the world’s first commercial passenger building dedicated to First and Business Class passengers.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
