Doha, QATAR – Natalie Imbruglia, the talented, singer, songwriter and actress, will perform at the 2nd Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) Gala Dinner in Doha for what is billed as Qatar’s social event of the year.
Known for her smash hit Torn, Natalie Imbruglia has sold more than 7.5 million albums worldwide and is one of the most successful Australian-born female singers. Winner of an MTV Award for her songs, the singer has reached top of the charts around the world.
Natalie Imbruglia will be joined by celebrity guests from around the world for the Reach Out To Asia Gala Dinner which takes place at The Ritz-Carlton Doha on November 4. Proceeds from ticket sales and auction of specially-donated items on the night will go towards the underprivileged and disadvantaged across Asia.
The Gala Dinner is being held under the auspices of The Heir Apparent, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whose sister Her Excellency Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani chairs the non-profit making Reach Out To Asia initiative.
Sheikha Mayassa, who has been the guiding force behind the success of Reach Out To Asia, said: “We are extremely delighted to have with us on this very special night Natalie Imbruglia who has shaped a very successful music career.
“She has entertained millions of people around the world with her music and we look forward to seeing her and listening to some of her hit songs live, promising to keep our Gala Dinner guests fully entertained.”
Last year’s inaugural Gala Dinner in aid of the charity, was attended by guests from across the social spectrum – from sporting celebrities and show business personalities to royalty, politicians and business leaders. This year’s red carpet event promises to be even better.
Jointly founded in 2005 by national airline, Qatar Airways, Qatar Foundation and the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee (DAGOC), Reach Out To Asia has since raised millions of dollars for worthy causes across the Asian continent, including the Middle East.
The three organisations have been collectively working throughout the year to support and drive the charity efforts of Reach Out To Asia, which has developed into a vibrant organisation, operating under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development based at Education City in Qatar.
This year is extra special for Reach Out To Asia because the international spotlight, in particular from Asia, will be firmly on Qatar as the country hosts the 15th Asian Games between December 1 – 15. Thousands of athletes will converge on Qatar for what is expected to be the biggest ever Asian Games.
Reach Out To Asia’s strategic location within Asia and the Middle East presents a unique opportunity to support its neighbouring countries as they overcome development difficulties. The diversity of Qatar’s own community, with more than 60 per cent of the expatriate population being of Asian origin, provides Reach Out To Asia with added impetus, insight and understanding of the various needs of the Asian continent, on which it focuses.
Qatar Foundation and its partners have been extending the hand of friendship and help to the many countries across Asia which have, and still are, experiencing serious social difficulties in terms of poverty, inadequate healthcare, homelessness, disease and natural disasters.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
