Doha, QATAR – Doha-based Qatar Golf Lovers enlisted the support of Qatar Airways Holidays to stage their latest tournament over nine-holes in the Qatari capital recently.
John Coubrough displayed sparkling form to win the tournament and, with it, the Qatar Airways Holidays Trophy at Doha Golf Club.
Coubrough carded an impressive net score of 29 after 9 holes in the strokeplay competition, where he was up against 44 golfers. Anuj Zinzuwadia finished as runner-up.
Chris Liddicoat won the best gross score prize and Brinda Menon earned the ladies best net score prize. Fred Pritchard was the winner of ‘closest to pin’ and Debashis Roy won ‘closest to rope’ prize, while Steve McGivney won the ‘longest drive’ award. Additional prizes were awarded to Bruce Montgomery, Anil Chacko and Ed Sutton for their outstanding performance.
Qatar Airways Holidays operations controller Lyndon Mendonca later hosted a prize giving ceremony during a gala dinner for all players at the Club.
Meanwhile, Qatar Golf Lovers bid farewell to Ashok Luharuwalla, who is leaving Qatar shortly. On behalf of all members, Qatar Golf Lovers Captain P.K.Mathew presented a memento to Mr Luharuwalla.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
