Doha, QATAR - Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akbar Al Baker, has today officially opened the airline’s new medical center.
Located behind the Qatar Airways Tower in Doha, the Medical center was inaugurated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with senior Qatar Airways staff and delegates from the Ministry of Health present.
Mr. Al Baker said: “It gives me great pleasure to open this facility. The provision of a medical centre is further proof for Qatar Airways’ devotion to the well being and comfort of its staff. This will ultimately influence their work and performance in a positive way.”
He added: “The medical centre will be the first point of contact for staff and will provide them with credible and useful consultations.
The Qatar Airways Medical Centre will provide its services to Qatar Airways staff six days a week, Saturdays to Thursdays. It will handle all outpatients’ medical problems pertaining to Doha-based staff covered by the medical insurance ‘Allianz Worldwide Care’.
Three doctors - two female and one male - and three nurses will be on duty during the hours of 7 am till 7 pm. The centre will also provide initial consultations, and will refer patients to hospitals and specialised clinics where necessary.
Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
