Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways, one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, has been named as the official airline of the Qatar Exxon Mobil Tennis Open 2006 and the Qatar Total Open 2006, to be held in Doha next year.

Some of the world’s leading players from the men’s and women’s circuit will converge on the capital of the State of Qatar for these prestigious tournaments being hosted by the Qatar Tennis Federation.

The 2006 Qatar Exxon Mobil Tennis Open for men will be staged at the Khalifa International Tennis Complex between 2 - 7 January 2006. The women’s event, 2006 Qatar Total Open, will be held at the same venue between 27 February – 4 March 2006.

At the Qatar Airways Tower in Doha, the airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Akbar Al Baker, and Qatar Tennis Federation president, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Faleh Al Thani officially signed the sponsorship deal.

“We are proud to be associated with the Qatar Tennis Federation who are hosting two prestigious tournaments that promise to attract thousands of tennis fans from Qatar, the Middle East and around the world,” said Al Baker.

“Qatar Airways looks forward to being the host airline for some of the world’s leading tennis players who will be showcasing their talent in Qatar and help put the country on the world stage.

“Like these shining lights of the tennis circuit, Qatar Airways is an airline that excels in high levels of service and quality to become an award-winning carrier and one of only three in the world to have achieved a Five Star ranking for excellence.

“We remain firmly committed to sponsoring these types of sports events that can promote the State of Qatar to the rest of the world.”

Added His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Faleh Al Thani: “We have some of the world’s top ranking players participating in the Qatar Exxon Mobil Open and the Qatar Total Open.

“On behalf of the Qatar Tennis Federation and tennis fans around the world, I would like to thank Qatar Airways and its Chief Executive Officer Mr Akbar Al Baker for their continued support of these annual tournaments over the years.”

Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
