Qatar Airways Celebrates Its Operations To Tehran

Tehran, IRAN - Qatar Airways celebrated the start of its operations to Tehran last week after the arrival of flight QR488 in Iran’s capital.

A delegation of Qatar Airways officials headed by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Akbar Al Baker, and Senior Manager Commercial Operations – East, Mr. Ali Al Rais was greeted by airport officials.

Mr. Akbar Al Baker expressed his delight to be in Tehran: “Tehran is not only our first service to the country of Iran, but also marks our 50th destination on our route network. This is a momentous and proud occasion.

“Flying to Tehran has been on our agenda for a long time, and we are pleased that we have now opened this service. We will be flying into Tehran four times per week.

“Tehran is the natural gateway to Iran and the country’s modern and thriving business center. Our service will be a convenient connection for business travelers from any of our worldwide destinations going to Iran, and will also open a new portal to business travelers from Tehran and its surrounding areas.

“On the other hand, with Tehran being the capital of a country with some 6,000 years worth of history and culture, and numerous sites which are of great value and interest to tourists, we expect this service to attract a fair amount of leisure travelers coming from Qatar, the Middle East and Europe in particular.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer our superb five-star service to the people of Iran, and to potential travelers from all around the world, who choose our airline for their trip to this fascinating country.

“With further destinations to be opened this year, such as Luxor, Istanbul, Zurich, Kabul and Johannesburg, Qatar Airways is offering the people of Iran connections to an extensive international route network that will encompass 60 destinations by early 2005, and 70 destinations by the end of 2005, “Mr. Al Baker said.

Qatar Airways will be flying to Tehran four times per week. Flight QR488 will leave Doha at 12:00 hrs on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays to arrive in Tehran at 15:30 hrs local time.

Return flight QR489 leaves Tehran on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 18:30 hrs, arriving at Doha International Airport at 19:00 hrs local time.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
