Qatar Airways To Participate In Airport Build & Supply Exhibition & Conference

Dubai, UAE: Qatar Airways is pleased to announce that it will be taking part in the Airport Build & Supply Exhibition & Conference which will be taking place in Dubai June 7 – 9, 2004.

The Exhibition will be held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Department of Civil Aviation Dubai and Chairman of Emirates Airlines. Supported by the Department of Civil Aviation Dubai (DDCA), the exhibition will showcase a range of equipment, technology and services required in the construction and daily operations of airports.

The Qatari Civil Aviation delegation will be headed by H.E. Abdul Aziz Mohd Al Noaimi – Chairman and Managing Director of the Civil Aviation Authority, joined by H.E. Ibrahim bin Rashid Al Misnad – Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA). Accompanying them will be senior officials from American engineering and project management company, Bechtel.

Qatar Airways participation in the conference comes at an opportune time as it will proudly display its’ ambitious plans for the development and construction of the new Doha International Airport.

The government of Qatar awarded US giant engineering and project management company Bechtel the contract to develop the new Doha International Airport earlier this year.

The new Doha International Airport is forecasted to be one of the best airports in the world. The vast expertise involved in the planning and construction of this new marvel is expected to set the benchmark for all future airports.

“The airport will also be pivotal to the continued significant growth of Qatar Airways as a global airline. The new airport will allow us to offer our passengers fast and efficient connections as we build a route network of at least 70 destinations by the end of 2005,” said Chief Executive of Qatar Airways Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

The new green-field airport will be situated approximately four kilometers east of the existing airport. It will feature two runways mostly constructed on reclaimed land, an opening date capacity to handle 12 million passengers a year, with a 24-gate passenger terminal complex, including 25,000 square meters devoted to retail space. A new Amiri Terminal with additional hardstands, cargo terminal buildings, aircraft hangars and associated airline and airport ancillary features. The complex will also include three high-star classification hotels for the convenience of visitors, as well as transfer passengers.

“The airport will position Doha and Qatar as a leading aviation hub and it will serve as a key factor in the continued growth and success of Qatar Airways,” added Mr. Al Baker.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com

Qatar Airways is one of only six airlines in the world with a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency.
