Qatar Duty Free Creates a Millionaire

Doha, QATAR - Qatar Duty Free created another millionaire in Doha today, when Qatar Airways’ General Manager Commercial, Mr. Mohamed Fakhri randomly selected the winning ticket, making one person richer by QAR1 million.

Qatar Duty Free held the raffle draw for the QAR1 million (US$280,000) cash prize at a special ceremony in its large premises at Doha International Airport.

General Manager of Qatar Duty Free, Mr Andrew Baker and Assistant General Manager Krishna Kumari, airport officials, and media attended the raffle draw ceremony.

“Qatar Duty Free is delighted to have given one lucky person the chance to
become an instant millionaire,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

“This is our second millionaire raffle draw, marking the largest cash draw that has been held in Qatar,” he said.

“We strive to offer great value and shopping experience at Qatar Duty Free
and will continue to do so for our valued customers. The fact that we
could offer such a large and exciting cash promotion reflects this
determination,” Mr. Al Baker said.

Around 3000 tickets were sold for the QAR1 million draw with each
ticket costing QAR450 or US$125.

Qatar Duty Free is a subsidiary of Qatar Airways. It has been experiencing
continued and significant growth.
“The type of sales growth we have experienced is forecasted to continue, as we expand the present terminal and duty free facilities to serve the expected dramatic
increase of passengers through Doha International Airport.

“The new state-of-the-art Doha International Airport, which will open in 2008 and allow us to introduce new duty free shopping concepts to 12 million passengers a year, will only cement Qatar Duty Free’s position as a major duty free operator in the Middle East,” added Mr Al Baker.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
