Qatar Airways Extends Service To Cebu To Cater To Gulf-Based Filipinos

CEBU - THE PHILIPPINES: Qatar Airways further extended its services to the Philippines today when its inaugural flight QR638 touched down in the southern Philippines city of Cebu at 16:00 hrs.

The flight into Cebu was led by a delegation of Qatar Airways officials headed by Mr. Mohamed Saleh Fakhri, General Manager Commercial; Mr. Marwan Koleilat, Regional Manager for the Far East; Mr. Ali Al Rais, Regional Manager Gulf, Yemen, Iran and Central Asia and Mr. Fathi Shehab, Regional Manager, Qatar and Africa. Mr Mario Hatchem, Area Manager Philippines, along with traditional dancers, senior government and airport officials and the media welcomed the Qatar Airways team.

"We are pleased that we can extend our services to the Philippines with this new thrice-weekly service to Cebu," said Mr Fakhri after landing.

"Cebu has become Qatar Airways' 48th destination and represents Qatar Airways' ongoing commitment to increase services to the Philippines.

"The new Cebu service follows our decision earlier this year to operate non-stop services to Manila, and to use our new state-of-the-art A330-200s between Manila and Doha," Mr. Fakhri pointed out.

He said people living in the Southern Philippines could now access the rest of the world through Qatar Airways' growing network of 48 destinations across the Far East, the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

"They will be able to access the world in style, in new aircraft that boast the latest in-flight services, and with crews that have been judged one of the best in the world.

"For the large expatriate Filipino community that lives in the Gulf, we can now offer a direct flight home to the southern Philippines," said Mr. Fakhri.

"We will also bring the world to Cebu with this new service. We're expecting this service to be a boon for the local travel industry as Europeans who travel to the beaches and resorts that have made Cebu so well known throughout the world," he added.

Qatar Airways presently has a fleet of 29 Airbus aircraft that includes: five A330s, 12 A320s, nine A300s, one A300 cargo freighter, and two A319 Corporate Jetliners.

Three leased A320s will be retired from the Qatar Airways fleet during 2004.
