Qatar Airways Holds Cargo Conference

Doha – Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Akbar Al Baker opened the airline’s Cargo Conference at the Sheraton Doha today.

Mr. Al Baker said: “Qatar Airways Cargo is one of our success stories. If Qatar Airways is known as one of the world’s fastest growing airlines, then Qatar Airways Cargo is one of the world’s fastest growing cargo operations.

“We will be increasing our fleet by thirteen aircraft this year, and expanding our route network to 60 destinations by early 2005.

“Last year we took delivery of our first dedicated cargo freighter and will add two further freighters to the fleet by 2007. All these factors ensure that Qatar Airways Cargo has seen an incredible increase in tonnage flown all over the world and will continue along its successful path.

“Our cargo section has seen an increase in revenue of more than 50 per cent for the last three years. For the financial year 2003/2004 the growth figures are exceeding 77 per cent.

“While we focus on new aircraft and innovative state-of-the-art technology to expand business and stay one step ahead of the competition, we cannot afford to ignore the most vital factor for sustained success, and that is customer satisfaction.

“All our services should be planned and executed in a way that they exceed our customer’s expectations.

“Qatar Airways Cargo has the will and the means to become a well-recognised, respected global brand name. We have the capability to serve customers from small and medium-sized businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

“Cargo moving is big business and it has enormous potential for growth. As our strategy is rooted on anticipating, understanding and meeting each customer’s unique needs, we are sure to succeed.

“This annual conference will provide a forum for discussions, updates and information-sharing between Qatar Airways Cargo and its worldwide General Sales Agents, who are instrumental in making Qatar Airways Cargo the success it is today, “Mr. Al Baker said.

The conference will be taking place over the next two days, and includes a full itinerary of speeches and presentations. Speeches by General Manager Commercial, Mr. Mohamed Salem Fakhri, and Manager Cargo Systemwide Mr. George Mathew will lead into presentations by the different stations, and talks about subjects such as pricing, operations and space control.

Interactive discussions will open the floor to workshops, all aiming to build on the relationship of Qatar Airways Cargo and their global General Sales Agents and finding ways to continuously build on the superior personal service that Qatar Airways’ and Qatar Airways Cargo customers have come to expect.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com
