Qatar Airways Flight Diverted To Cairo

DOHA, Qatar: Qatar Airways flight QR553 heading from Casablanca to Doha, diverted to Cairo earlier this morning after a passenger-disturbance incident took place on board the aircraft. Qatar Airways diverted its’ flight as a result of its’ top priority towards the safety and security of it’s passengers.

The Doha bound flight, carrying 92 passengers, was grounded in Cairo for approximately an hour and a half during which time the disturbed passenger was off-loaded for questioning by Egyptian Authorities. The Passenger has been identified as a 30-year old male. The man was accompanied by a friend who did not partake in the incident. The Qatar Airways flight continued its’ journey to Doha and landed safely and without incident at Doha International Airport at approximately 10:25hrs this morning.

“The safety and security of our passengers will always be our number one priority,” Said Chief Executive Officer Mr. Akbar Al Baker.

Qatar Airways is the first airline in the world to pass the new International Air Transport Associations (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), passing with 100 percent compliance.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010.
