Qatar Airways Announces Doha Bank As A Platinum Sponsor Of Fourth World Travel and Tourism Summit

DOHA — Qatar Airways has announced Doha Bank as a Platinum Sponsor of the Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit, taking place in Doha from May 1-3 2004.

Qatar Airways’ Chief Executive Officer Mr Akbar Al Baker and Chairman of Doha Bank Sheikh Fahad Bin Mohammad Bin Jabor Al Thani announced the sponsorship agreement at a press conference today.

“I am very pleased to announce Doha Bank as one of our Platinum Sponsors of the Fourth Global Travel and Tourism Summit,” said Mr Al Baker.

“The Summit, which is being organised by the World Travel and Tourism Council and hosted by Qatar Airways, will attract 700 of the most influential people in the world’s tourism industry.

“The support and contribution of Doha Bank to the Summit will only add to the prestige of the Summit and contribute to the success of this world-class event.

“Doha Bank’s support will also assist the world travel industry to move forward in a very meaningful way. The Summit is designed to be a forum where the industry leaders can set the future directions of the industry.

“The support of Doha Bank also means that we can continue to showcase Doha as an ideal location for major international events,” said Mr Al Baker.

The World Travel and Tourism Summit is being held in the Middle East for the very first time, and its objective is to generate lively discussion about some of the key issues facing the travel and tourism industry.

The Summit will attract industry leaders like Easyjet’s founder Stelio Haji-Ioannou, Tui’s Chairman Dr Michael Frenzel, the Intercontinental’s Chief Executive Richard North, the BBC’s Nik Gowing, McKinsey’s Managing Director Ian Davis, IATA’s Chief Executive Officer Giovanni Bisignani among others.

The agenda will address current economic trends in the industry, world health issues, new management styles, investment opportunities, how the media influences consumers, the ‘seamless travel experience’, new destinations and new markets.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com

Qatar Airways is one of only six airlines in the world with a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency. Skytrax also named Qatar Airways’ cabin crew as Best in the Middle East for the fifth year running in 2007 following a survey of more than 15 million passengers worldwide.
