The Seychelles

Johannesburg, South Africa

Known as the “City of Gold,” Johannesburg is a treasure waiting to be unearthed. Discover the expansive history of South Africa in its largest city with a visit to Constitution Hill or Vilakazi Street, where Nelson Mandela and his family used to live.

Venture 40 minutes from “Joburg” to the Cradle of Humankind, a treasure trove of early human history. Stop by the Maropeng Visitor Center where you can view Australopithecus Africanus, the fist-ever hominid fossil found on the site in 1924.

Cairo, Egypt

With historical records dating back to 3150 BC, Egypt is home to some of the oldest ancient monuments in the world. The most famous attraction, the Pyramids of Giza, are the last of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to remain largely intact.

Tbilisi, Georgia

Stroll the cobblestone streets of Old Town Tbilisi, where you can find Narikala, a fortress from the 4th century. While visiting the fortress, be sure to greet the Mother of Georgia, an aluminum statue erected to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the city. In her hands she holds a bowl of wine in the left for her friends and a sword in the right for her enemies, which is said to symbolize Georgia’s national character.

Next, stop at the Georgia National Museum where you can see a variety of exhibitions including, “Stone Age of Georgia,” which displays a collection of  artifacts and early human remains dating back to 1.77 million years ago. With a history as old as Tbilisi’s, history lovers will be sure to find something they love.
