NEW YORK, USA – Qatar Airways, the Official Global Airline Partner of The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) Club Competitions, congratulates Club Atlético River Plate on the outstanding win during the 2019 CONMEBOL Recopa. River Plate Stadium, Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti hosted the second leg of the final with over 60,000 dedicated fans from around the world.

Qatar Airways Senior Vice President of the Americas, Eric Odone, said: “We are proud to be a partner of the world’s oldest continental Confederation, CONMEBOL. Prior to the match, Qatar Airways organized a celebration in honor of the sponsorship inviting well-known Argentinian celebrities “La China” Suárez and Franco Masini. The guests enjoyed an amazing evening at Nuestro Secreto, located in the gardens of the Four Seasons Hotel Buenos Aires, where the journalist Sebastian, “el Pollo” Vignolo and former player Oscar Ruggeri entertained guests with stories from Ruggeri’s experience during the international football finals

Qatar Airways became the official CONMEBOL partner in October 2018, adding another strong sports partnership to its expanding portfolio and creating maximum exposure in South America. As part of the agreement, Qatar Airways will be the sponsor of CONMEBOL professional football club competitions for the next 4.5 years, effective through 2022.

CONMEBOL is the continental governing body of football in South America, and is one of FIFA’S six continental confederations. The entity is responsible for the organization and governance of South American football’s major international tournaments. Qatar Airways has long celebrated its strong ties with South America; earlier this year the airline announced it was the Official Jersey Sponsor of the world-renowned Argentinian football club the Boca Juniors through the 2022/23 season. In addition, Qatar Airways Group acquired 10 per cent of South American LATAM Airlines Group in December 2016 through a strategic investment, further strengthening ties with the continent. Qatar Airways proudly flies one of the youngest fleets in the sky, featuring the world’s most technologically-advanced and environmentally friendly aircraft. The airline operates a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft to a network of more than 160 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America, including São Paulo and Buenos Aires.
