Qatar Duty Free Creates Sixth Millionaire

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Duty Free has given yet another lucky traveler a reason to celebrate as a prize draw of QAR 1 Million was announced earlier this afternoon. The fortunate winner, a Sudanese national, became the latest millionaire in the company’s exclusive prize draw.

Khaled Hassan Omer Ahmed, who bought his raffle ticket enroute to Japan on January 30, 2006, emerged as the winner of the cash jackpot. Mr. Ahmed, originally from Sudan currently resides in Yokohama, Japan.

Qatar Airways General Manager Finance and Administration, Mr. Richard Forson drew the money-spinning winning ticket during a special ceremony held in the duty free area at Doha International Airport in Qatar. He was joined by Qatar Duty Free General Manager Mr. Daniel Galvin and Qatar Duty Free Assistant General Manager Krishna Kumari, together with local media, for the raffle draw.

It was the sixth successful millionaire draw organized by Qatar Duty Free, which sold 3,000 tickets for QR450 (US$125) each since the last draw in December 2005.

“Qatar Duty Free is delighted to have given yet another lucky person the chance to become an instant millionaire,” said Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker.

“We strive to offer great value and a great shopping experience for our valued customers at Qatar Duty Free. The fact that we could offer such a large and exciting cash promotion reflects this determination.

Qatar Duty Free has been experiencing continued and significant growth over the past few years. Last year, turnover increased 70 per cent over the 2004 figures, due to growth in passenger traffic at Doha International Airport and significant expansion of national airline Qatar Airways.

Work has already begun on the new $5.5 billion Doha International Airport, a state-of-the-art facility that will be built on reclaimed land and opened in phases beginning in 2009. Initial capacity will be 12 million, increasing four-fold to around 50 million by the time the airport is fully operational in 2015.

The new airport will have a larger duty free shopping area that will compete at the highest levels with many of its rivals around the world.

Qatar Airways, which owns and operates the current international airport in Doha, is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world operating a fleet of 45 all-Airbus aircraft to 70 destinations worldwide. The airline plans to serve 80 cities by the end of 2006.

The Qatar Airways group of companies includes Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Aviation Catering Company, Qatar Airways Holidays, United Media International, Qatar Distribution Company and Doha International Airport.

Doha-based Qatar Airways will operate a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2013 – almost double the existing size. Qatar Airways has ordered 80 Airbus A350s, 60 Boeing 787s and 32 Boeing 777s, with deliveries of the latter having started in November 2007. The airline is a launch customer of the twin-deck Airbus A380 ‘super jumbos’ with five aircraft on order and scheduled for delivery from 2010. Qatar Airways moves to the New Doha International Airport in 2010, when the first phase of the new facility opens. For more information, visit www.ndiaproject.com

Qatar Airways is one of only six airlines in the world with a Five Star ranking for service and excellence awarded by Skytrax, the independent aviation industry monitoring agency. Skytrax also named Qatar Airways’ cabin crew as Best in the Middle East for the fifth year running in 2007 following a survey of more than 15 million passengers worldwide.
